Short Story by: Bella Davies
It was a bright and sunny day in Titania. The sky was a beautiful clear blue and the green grass shone in the sun. It was the perfect day for a picnic beside the lake. I felt like a kid again as I splashed and swam in the cool water. It was nice to not worry about the kingdom, even if it was only for a day. I looked over at James Robert. He was sitting on the old wooden dock with his feet in the water. His face was turned up to soak in the sunlight that made his beautiful dark skin stand out. I swam over to where his feet entered the water silently. If I messed up then the plan would be ruined. He was oblivious to my approach as I reached his feet. I counted to three silently in my head and I grabbed his ankle and pulled. He let out a girly scream as he fell into the water with a loud splash. I was clutching my stomach as he splashed and gasped for air. It was like looking at a fish out of water. He looked at me, his black hair falling into his eyes. I would recognise that look anywhere. I started to make a run for it but I was too late. I only just had enough time to take a deep breath before he grabbed me and dunked me under the water. I struggled, of course. He was strong. I tried kicking and punching but the water slowed down my movements. I decided that if he was going to play dirty then so was I. I reached out for his thigh and pinched him. Hard. He released my shoulders with a scream of, “Alexandria!” and I came to the surface gasping for air. I made my way to the bank quickly and turned to face him. The look on his face was priceless. It was a cross between anger, pain and confusion. He climbed up the bank and made his way over to me. I couldn’t resist the urge to poke my tongue out at him. He gave me a toothy grin as he came closer. I was expecting him to pinch me or throw me into the water but what I got was different. Very different. He wrapped his arms around me and placed his lips softly on mine. It felt like I was flying. I kissed him back passionately.
It wasn’t long before I heard our friends calling for us to eat something other than each other’s faces. We pulled apart and I looked into his grinning face. I knew I must have been grinning just as much. He suddenly took off towards the others. I grinned and chased after him. The whole time I was thinking;
Best. Day. Ever.
