Me or the Dog

Spoiled dogs, and their indulgent masters...of which I am one.

I hate to make ultimatums

But you've got to understand.

It's me or the dog.

I've got to make a stand.

I sleep on the edge of the bed

The dog always comes between us.

The only one you cuddle with

Is a 100lbs pooch named Gus.

I may be the only man in our bed

But there is definitely another male.

The sweet kisses in my dreams

Are just his wagging tail.

It's me or the dog.

You've got to make a choice.

I try to move him, and he growls at me

It seems I don't have a voice.

I guess it could be worse.

We could have a cat.

With their razor sharp claws.

I'd never get up to bat.

LOL...thanks! I guess it's part of the territory when you have 2 dogs and at least one of them is in bed with us at any given time. But they're our kids...and they're spoiled rotten and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks for stopping by.

brian, I had a dog (cheno) for 18 years, and he would not let anyone near me if I were asleep. many years ago my boyfriend would have to walk all the way around the other side of the bed and slowly squeeze between the radiator to get in, or if he would attempt to stretch across me to get in, my dog would lunge out at him. years later when he was old and almost blind, he could still sense when a bad person was around and start barking, waking even from a sound sleep. ya he was my best friend, protector, child, ya he was great. glad I read this piece--see ya later....

Well thank you...what a nice story. To me there's no better friend than a dog...We have two of them..and sometimes we sleep in the oddest positions to accommodate the two of them sprawled across the bed. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks for stopping by!
