The Dream

As eyelids fall, a single yawn

releases me to sleep.

And so I walk the land of dreams

where playful creatures creep.

-

"Ahead! Ahead! No time to spare -

come, open up the gates!

Ahead! Ahead!" The creatures cry,

"a wonderland awaits!"

-

A land where black tarantulas,

gargantuan in size,

whilst spinning webs, triangular,

sing Spanish lullabies.

-

Where lions squawk and parrots roar,

and grizzly bears are green.

Where dinosaurs play tug of war,

on giant movie screens.

-

Where squirrels swim and catfish climb

up monkey puzzle trees.

There's talking toads, reciting rhyme -

performing poetry.

-

But soon, I spy the falling moon

and hear the songbirds sing,

then stir from my bizarre cocoon,

as bells begin to ring.

-

I rise to face a brand new day -

I wave the night goodbye,

then stretch, and slowly wipe away

the dream, from out my eyes.
