When he gets home from work he sees her,
sitting on the couch
a pillow clutched tightly to her chest
she looks so frail,
her beautiful eyes focused on a spot on the wall

you're here

he speaks softly not wanting to startle her
as she didn't seem to have noticed his presence.

He takes off his jacket and
kneels down in front of her.

are you okay?

a far away look in her eyes.

She wraps her arms around him,
burying her nose in the warm crook of his neck
to keep from crying.
But she can't stop the tears welling up
when his arms envelope her

please stay

her voice is small and broken begging him
His fingers trail a path up her arm.
easily finding the scars she left there.

how long has this been going on for?

a while.
