It's just a poem of the fear of growing old alone that I think most young adults experience. As well as depicting the responsibilities that have suddenly fallen on your plate, even though you're not sure how to be responsible for them.

As time goes by the fire dwindles,

Knowledge and responsibilites suck away at its orange breath,

It's red fingers snap in the winds of heartbreak,

So you are left with a sense of emptiness as you descend into death.

It is the aging process that all have come to dread,

Growing old and being alone,

Losing memories in the rivers of your head,

Thinking that what you knew you have never known.

Certain wisdoms are a sweet europhia to certain pains,

Developments in new loves,

Create a balance that you must maintain.

Forget those who lack the love they knew not in their youth,

Who have managed to stumble their way through life alone,

With the cold black depth of loneliness choking their ability to communicate,

About the devastation, and emptiness their life now knows.

These are the ones who watch as the loves they had nurtured depart,

Their lives unravel too fast for them to catch the thread,

The ones who never find anothers heart.

The ones that most fear and dread.

It is this fire that drops its blinding cloud of ash,

On those who expected life to flow in the rivers of their head,

Who choke on the words they dream to say

,And have allowed the thread to pile at the fires feet - defeated.
