People come here with high expectations

And the gleam of hope in their eyes.

A couple nights of these city streets

Changes their dreams of long nights of long lost lovers

To nightmares of drug induced

Broken hearts and bones.

I'll never forget the look of fear

In your eyes as he pulled the gun

And presssed it into my abdomen.

Fear, not of the death of me

But of the notion

That they would think it was your crime.

While others pack

And loose the words of

"I love this city"

off of their lips

They run to their safe houses,

saying, "Anywhere but here".

I cling to the hope

That I came here for a reason

To break away from the nieve

And to loose my sugar coated expectations of the world.

I understand that it was murder

That kept most alive.

And I, in fact, am capable of murder.
