Was it just an act,

To put away your pain,

Run from reality,

Even for just a moment?

*

A mask to hide yourself,

Ashamed for who you are,

Trying to change to be someone better,

But things aren't aways a one-way road.

*

Hide your feelings,

Drown your sorrows,

Turn a blind eye from the needle

That's piercing through oh so slowly.

*

Build a barrier to protect

The fragile fragments of your heart.

A wall that repels arrows,

A covering that blocks blows.

But how long can you stand?

*

It's like a battle on many sides,

Soon you'll just get tired.

Muscles aching, mind whirling,

Blood pumping in your head.

*

Faint, fatigue, pain,

Numb you can headly feel,

Such as the agony that penetrates,

Your throat that's suffocating,

Your heartbeat pauses for a sec.

*

You feel moist on your face,

And it's not just sweat.

A searing ache that's not physical,

An emptiness that's aware it's lost

beneath the morass of yourself.

*

But I'll be reminded of you,

For when loneliness strikes,

And people leave,

I'm just glad you'll be here with me.

*

Sometimes when i feel like crackin, breaking, falling apart,

You sew up the broken ends,

Pick up the shattered glass,

And hold me still.

*

Walking towards the horizon,

You'll never leave me,

And I can run, smiling,

Free from the constraints they once held tight.

*** Note: the 'you' in the last 3 stanzas are apparently different from the previous 'you's.
