A poem about love once held, now slipping away.

Everything is subtly fucked

As it is, was and ever shall be.

Everything is backwards.

I never did agree with my Mothers definition of love,

and to debate it would be pointless.

I remember when you held me, and my heart raced.

Was that love?

Or was it when my hand shook, nervous, before settling into yours?

And when we hit that glass ceiling,

and love escaped, like a freed bird,

why then did we cling with tragic fingernails to the cliff side that was us?

What comfort is there in the familiar,

when the familiar makes you miserable?

As we lie here side by side,

breathing in unison,

understanding in unison,

knowing in unison,

that we have become same sides of a magnet.

For one brief moment we pretend that bird is still caged.

But in the end

we both know that its all subtly fucked.
