Our Wish
Millions of people die every day. The thing is, I don’t care about those people right now.  Because, when a family member is dying, nothing and no one matters.
It started when my mom was driving home from work. I was going to surprise her with her favorite; takeout Chinese. I called her to tell her that I had a surprise for her. She was only minutes away from home. But then, seconds after I had hung up the phone, this truck came out of nowhere, and hit my mom’s pink punch bug. I thought for sure she had no chance. But someone had seen her accident and called an ambulance. She was rushed to the hospital and put into a coma.
That was two days ago. She is still in a coma, and I am still with her at the hospital. My mom HAS to live. You see, my dad abandoned us when my mom got pregnant with me. Her parents are dead. And since I’m only 13, I’ll be sent to a foster home if she doesn’t make it. I don’t know why they haven’t come for me yet.
My mom is the only person in the world who loves me. She can’t die. She needs to know that I need her, and that I love her.
Sitting by my mother’s side in the hospital room, all I can do is stare. She looks like she’s sleeping. Like she’ll wake up any second. But the truth of that is still unknown.
I wish she WOULD wake up. I wish that my mom would live, so that I can tell her I love her. I wish and wish until I fall asleep in the hospital bed with my mother.
When I wake up, she is stroking my hair. I do not realize this until seconds later. Feeling shocked, I hug my mother and begin to cry.
“You came back to me.” I sobbed. She continued to stroke my hair and held me in her arms.
“I wished and hoped for me to come back to you, to my baby girl. To the one person in the world who loves me.” She said, repeating my wishful thinking.
My mother and I shared one wish. For us to be loved. And now that she survived, we both have been granted that wish.
