you are my best friend, that no one can see, will you teach me, just how to be free?

I sat crying

My head in my hands

Why can’t anyone see

My very best friend

He stood beside me

With a hand on my back

A concerned expression

And eyes that are black

“Is it all true?

The words that they said,

Are you my imagination?”

My voice full of dread

“No of course not

They made it all up

But the thing is

You need to wake up.”

He hands me a razor

With its blade so sharp

I accepted it slowly

And pushed out the top

“Go on” he said

“It’s the only way

See this is a dream

It’ll all go away”

There’s pounding on my door

But I paid it no heed

Deep into my wrist

I watch myself bleed

I feel the sharp pain

And the world is spinning

The last thing I saw

Was my best friend grinning

I can barely feel

My cold body drop

Bet you’d never guess

Who didn’t wake up
