The Seals Wont Mind
Come and stroll along the beach with me.
We can splash up to our knees in the cool water,
while skipping stones on top of the sea.
Build a sand castle of our dreams,
shore up the towers with shells
and smooth well rounded pebbles,
the castle windows and doors.
Lying in the sand, hands deep within
scraping out the moat that we carefully dig.
Scooping slowly towards each others hand,
inch by inch until that moment our fingers meet
wiggling together in the warmth of the wet sand.
As they entwine, our eyes meet, in that intense moment.
Our fingers clasp together, joined below the moat's bridge.
Mutual smiles of achievement as we dig anew
to make the moat deeper than the trench leading to the sea.
So that the water remains and wont flow back.
Architect work done we move on.
To undisturbed sand we use long sticks
we doodle and scrape out all kinds of shapes.
I carve a heart our initials within and arrow through.
Looking across at your artistic masterpiece
the perfect shape of male genitalia, six foot tall.
Laughing we run crazy footprints though it all,
obliterating our work as you knew we would.
In companionable silence we relax sitting on the rocks,
the waves spray us with there surges between.
I sing to the water songs of my childhood youth
Trying to lure the seals near us with there curiosity.
And yes, you may press your fingers into your ears.
I know I cant hold a note but you don't ask me to stop for
The seals wont mind.
