I never thought we could fall
this low from such a great height:
We're standing against the wall
to fight an unwinable fight.
Trapped between blindness and sight,
we don't know our own reasons why
we're losing this battle tonight
and never saying goodbye.

It seems to me that, after all,
we are caught between "will be" and "might."
There is nowhere safe we can crawl
and no one left to spite.
Caught fast between darkness and light,
with no strength left to smile or sigh,
we're floating adrift in the night
and never saying goodbye.

Darling, we can't win this fight--
we'll only be left asking why
we both walked away tonight
and never said goodbye.
