I have done so much wrong and amiss
in this life, but I will not regret
something more than I repent for this
and the blood that you hold in my debt
I cannot believe that I’ve blown
this far from where I once stood
But darling, you still should have known
If the guilt didn’t kill you, I would

I thought I was chained to your power
I thought without you I’d be free
but I’m lost now, and fear will devour
whatever strength you left to me
I cannot believe than you’ve sown
as much wisdom in me as you could
But darling, you still should have known
If the fear didn’t kill you, I would

I would give up the world to remember
the look in your eyes when you said
in a voice that was soft as an ember
and cold as the night we both dread
that I couldn’t be free or alone
until in me the world found some good
But darling, you still should have known
If the lies didn’t kill you, I would

I wish I could erase our past
but I’m scared that if I set me free
from your memories, then at the last
there will be nothing left here of me
And I know that I cannot atone
for this crime only you understood
But darling, I still should have known
if this life didn’t kill me, you would
