This is a brief poem describing how I felt after receiving some bad news from a relative.

The old saying goes,

Never bite the hand that feeds you,

So why is it I have so many scars from my own people,

In the same situation so we’re considered equals,

But when I put my hand out to feed you,

My kindness you just see through,

Like glass,

Just to put me beneath you,

Actions like this leave me to believe,

Maybe I should change my own ways,

Cause helping others isn’t helping me to see better days,

Been on this road so long feels like it’s my destiny,

Seems like I’m up the river and I haven’t even reached my peek,

So why is it when I reach for your help,

You want the last bit of power left in me,

Lost in a sea of anxiety with no life preserve or,

Like being left in a concrete jungle to fend for myself,

I release that four letter word and there’s nobody left,

Why is it the one you trust the most,

Are the same ones that can take so much just to give so little,

But can cause the most pain without even the slightest touch.
