Once upon a time there lived a miller and his wife. They longed for a son, and were overjoyed when a child was born. Their happiness and glee soon turned into sorrow and contempt when they realized their child was a girl. They gave her the poorest clothing and made her do all the chores, but they were never satisfied with whatever she did. Finally, after a server beating, she left her home and travelled out into the world. Without any money and such poor clothes, the girl was soon dying of hunger. She came to a castle, but the hearts of the king and queen were cold. They locked her up, but their kind-hearted son freed her. She urged him to leave with her, but he told her he remained trapped in this castle until his parents have died. The girl begged the prince to tell her how to kill his parents. The boy told her that his mother could be killed only by the smoke from a fire lit on pure water and the father could only be killed by an arrow dipped in the jeweled toad’s blood. The girl loved the prince so much she decided to kill his parents. She travelled some distance and saw a rabbit. She was hungry so she was about to kill the rabbit when it yelled out for her to look behind her. The girl looked behind her, only to realize that she had been tricked. On an empty stomach, she walked until night. Suddenly, she saw a lagoon and it was filled with rocks and seaweed. She picked some seaweed to eat and the rocks burst into flames. She picked a stone up and the fire immediately went out. The girl wept, her tears falling on the stone, making it forever burn. Then she set out to find the toad. The toad was easy to find for it glimmered. She took one shot at it and it fell down dead. She dipped all her arrows into his blood and went back to the castle. When the king and queen saw her and realized that she somehow escaped their prison, they went into rage and rushed at her. The girl took one aim at the king with the arrow and he fell down dead. The queen continued to rush at her but she took out the burning stone and the smoke choked her to death. The prince then came to her side and they ruled over the castle together.
