 Chapter 1: The Bear

I climbed up a large tree, sticking my hands in the grooves of the tall wooden creature. The tree seemed to welcome me home and I found myself becoming quite comfortable. Even though the land was cold tonight, I felt warm in the arms of my wooden friend. I climbed the familiar tree and I finally peeked from the trunk and made my way onto the branches. I looked up into the green leaves and saw a branch which seemed sturdy enough to sustain my weight. I started to climb once again. The familiar motion of swirling into the treetop came to me as it did everyday.  I closed my eyes and concentrated on the sounds of the forest. But I heard nothing. I stopped climbing and looked around. Nothing but the delicate forest awaited my eyes.

I finally came upon the branch which I desired the be upon and sat. Even though it was solid wood, it was seemed soft and plush. Maybe it had been because I had been hunting from the break of dawn. I looked over my left shoulder to see the sun setting and remembered the wintry ground, my bow being drawn, and waiting. But nothing.

I knew night would fall upon me sometime soon, but I closed my eyes wishing it would come faster. I kept them closed, clenching them tight until I opened them to see my fragile hands. I remember them being soft and plush, but now they were nothing but skin layered bone. My appearance overall was not very attractive. I had dirty blonde hair that reached my shoulders. It had always been my weakness point in hunting. I also had a pair of jeans and a tshirt, but the color of both of them was unrecognizable due to all the dirt which I have smeared on me. I used to have a scarf, but when I first entered the woods cut my leg on a tree and I used the scarf to stop the gushing blood from emerging from my leg. I placed it around the bottom part of the tree to mark it as my own. I guess it was a good way to find myself back home. I never really cared for the scarf after that.

Night started to draw closer and the branches of the humble tree became coated with frost. The forest started to decline my presence and I noticed I myself was being coated with frost. It had been cold in the forest before, but not this badly. It startled me that I hadn’t even noticed that the freezing crystals on me. I brushed the ice off me. I started to hop down the tree placing my hands on the branches and did the swift motion of climbing down the tree once again. I was fluidly making my way down the tree when I decided I was going to build a fire.

I grabbed my bow in case I ran into any woodland creatures, I was hoping I would run into something. My stomach growling would probably scare off any animal daring to venture off into my part of the woods though. But I prepared for the best and slung my bow over my shoulder and walked deeper into the woods the collect sticks for the fire. Step after step I scanned the ground for some form of life, and sticks. But after I had gathered enough sticks to start a decant fire I walked back to my tree with no kill.

It was always difficult to find my tree, considering there was lots of trees just like it, but soon I eventually found the one that had my bloody scarf around it and  plopped the skinny bits of wood onto the forest floor. The forest seemed to coat itself thicker and thicker with ice. I was confused as of how the forest was freezing this quickly.
