Memories

Memories,
played out on the screen,
the one behind your eyes.
The projector powered by the energy of youth,
and lit by the flames of passion.
Movies kept in the vault of life,
pictures of the past,
pieces of heaven,
where time and space have no meaning.

Set the mood,
with candles and smoke,
soft music and days gone by.
Ephemeral images coalesce,
emotions become colors.
Words? No, only images.
Ideas that defy expression,
but fill us none the less.

A first kiss,
laughter in the sun.
Faces lost so long ago,
alive inside our minds.
Hearts ache and leap,
memories to hold, and keep.
All there for us to taste,
and see, and feel,
like it was yesterday,
only yesterday.

Then carefully put away,
locked up tight.
Ready to play again when we want,
or need,
our memories.
