*Overly passionate religous people, don't leave biased comments please*

I have to wonder, why do people need religion? Why do people need a reason to be here?! What is so darn great about the human race? I would like to see somebody explain the 'greatness' of the human race without using technology as an excuse or using religion as a reason. Not so easy, I bet? I, for one, don't think us humans are all that great. We came from cave men, who came from monkeys. And on top of that, it's not like we've conquered the universe, there could be maaany other races or 'things' out there that could easily wipe out our existance. "Why hasn't it happened to us then?" you'd probably ask. Because what would be the motivation? Let's face it, not everything or everyone cares about us! If aliens or whatever you may believe is out there, is actually out there, it doesn't mean they'd have any reason at all to care about our feeble existance on our tiny planet earth.

"Oh, well we've been to the moon!" So what? Why should we be out in a small stretch of space, when we haven't even been to the bottom of the ocean?! I just irritates me when people talk about religion and how we're all here for a reason and we all belong somewhere and how religion is about living a good life and being a good person and blah blah BLAH! Since when do you need to have religion to tell right from wrong? I have no relgion, but I obviously know it's wrong and pointless to kill another person for no reason. I don't need a god or goddess to tell me what to do and how to behave or what morals to live by. I think that trying to convert people and bashing religion (I'm not bashing, I'm trying to express my opinions in a civil way. I'm not trying to offend anybody.) is wrong. If you believe in something, you believe in something. It doesn't matter.

Another thing, if you're in a situation where something tragic might happen, what is praying going to do? And what is believing in something great in the afterlife going to do? It creates a soft little barrier from death. Let's say your mother has cancer, and it's spreading. You pray to your god or goddess or whomever to save them, right? What makes you think that will help? You're just protecting yourself from the plain fact that there's a chance to live and a chance to die. Nobody likes to face the raw fact of death without something good from it.

I just needed to vent, and I hope I didn't offend anybody, and there's no reason to leave mean comments please.
