A poem about a persons feelings when they are admitted to an instution. The way that their personality and indivuality are taken away from them.

This piece orginally started as a song but I think it works as well as a piece of peotry.

I was me when I came in here
A lonely morning time in October
Cold and grey not a bird in sight
Smiling they took my case
And they took my face

They took my clothes and gave me theirs
“Its all for the best” they said
“keep them safe” and they took my money too
They showed me a room with just a bed
No wallpaper on the walls
Just cold grey paint instead

I sit on the landing now and watch the world go by
The rest all sit and watch TV
Michael sits and stares at the wall
Although there’s nothing left to see

As I sit I wonder why
Why am I left to rot ?
Sometimes I feel my brain begin to go
Although I was never slow

I was me when I came in here
A lonely morning time in October
I hear a bird sing now
I can see it on the tree
Spring brings new life to the world

What will it bring to me ?
