A short poem about hope also about freedom from bad emotions, being able to express how you feel. When you have carried something bad around for so long. The release feels like the cell door being opened.

The prisoner

I had something nasty inside of me
It ate away at me piece by piece

It gnawed away at my soul
With blackened fingers

It lurked deep in my heart
Spreading its cancer

It imprisoned my emotions
It barred my tears

I had something nasty inside of me
Someone took it away

Someone opened the prison
And the dove took flight……
