Originally a song I wrote back in 1989 ! I recently re discovered it stuck in a folder when I was looking for something else...

A simple song based on the old folk songs telling a story of a woman who lost all of her men because of the overwhelming power of the ruling classes.

This is not a political song/poem merely a sad story.

They (The Lords)

They say he did steal wine from the lords
They say he did steal deer from the wood
They say he did kill the rabbit as it run
But only I know he did only good
But only I know he did only good

They came in the night and took him from his bed
They locked him away for why was not said
They locked him away for a very long time
They said we could not see him anymore
They said we could not see him anymore

They said they would hang him for poaching
They said they would hang him for feeding his children
They said they would hang him on the fifth morning
So we would not see him anymore
So we would not see him anymore

They took my son to fight in the army
They took my son to fight for the cause
They took all my men away to the wars
They killed all my men for the lords
They killed all my men for the lords.
