I got sort of inspired by the book series Warrior Cats, ironic enough I've never read the series. I just know of it.

“Luna, it’s time,” A young Persian said. Her name was rumored to be Penelope but the other cats addressed her Anne. It made no difference. Still the same cat.

“I don’t have the heart tonight, Anne. Thoughts crowd my mind day and night. Morbid ones too,” the black cat meowed back. She had a crescent on her forehead from her former owners attempting to brand her. She’ll never forget that.

“You tell me this everyday. Complain about your depression. Whine about your stupid owners. They’re gone. In fact they’ve been absent for 5 years and now you decide to mention them. You were never like this before. Even when we invited you to the gang. What’s wrong with you?” Anne said firmly. She didn’t like Luna acting like this.

Luna sighed heavily. “I don’t know what to do with my life anymore. Every full moon the alley cats get together. We mew. We dance. We celebrate. It’s nothing new. Why would I want to do it again? Isn’t it time to stop?”

“No it’s not. Come on. You delayed us for 20 minutes already. The chief is going to be furious,” Anne was getting impatient.

“If he is—so be it,” Luna ran. Her green eyes glowed in the night. Tears leaked onto the sidewalk as she sprinted. She stopped suddenly. She was in front of a pound.
