I wrote this poem 4 months, surprisingly to the day, before my grandfather passed away. It was read at his funeral service.

There’s this little world
I hold it close at heart
I share it with my grandpa
From before he had to part

The grass was very green
With his puppy playing nice
We sat there speaking softly
How everything has a price

One I’d gladly pay
I whispered in his ear
To find you in your workshop
For even one more year

Your always gentle warnings
To keep us safe in life
How to love and nurture
And how to deal with strife

I know you will be better
I know the end was rough
I don’t know if it was scary
But I know that you are tough

I’ll remember you for laughing
And joking with our crew
Around a warm campfire
Grandpa, I miss you
