Life is a Psychological short story which pushes the boundaries of how a novel would go. It contains adult content and is a confusing story. Nothing is solved. This is my first short story, I hope you enjoy. There are mostly likely errors.

LIFE

Prologue

Life’s hard to understand, it’s hard to follow. You can never truly understand others if you don’t understand yourself. It’s either chose the path of a criminal and live a messed up life or follow the man for life, it’s always your choice. You can’t force your problems onto others, because one day, finding yourself and getting away from everything is all you need. This is a story you cannot forget.

Robert Stansworth was a quiet, aggressive, and an often depressed person. He was at the age of 15, a normal high school student, doing normal things. Robert was a short boy, the shortest in his class. He might’ve even been shorter than his brother, who is 3 years below him. He was an average looking boy, slim, brown hair, and brown eyes. He had very few friends, and liked to spend most of his time laying on his bed in his room in the dark. He never found any light in his life, it was always darkness for him, but little did he know, something was soon to change.

Chapter 1. Life isn’t easy for everyone you know!

The sun was shining through the window onto Robert’s face while he sat in his school desk thinking about a pretty girl who sat in front of him, he would always blush when he thought about her. She was at least ---- taller than him, she had beautiful eyes that often changed between blue and green, her hair was naturally bleach blond, she always wore tons of make-up, and never really spoke to anybody but her brother. As Robert was ignoring Mrs Debra’s ‘pointless’ teachings of Shakespeare, he glared at the beauty of the young girl. Ding Dong Ding Rob jumped in fear as the bell rang, unlike most students, his eyes where never on the teacher, or the clock. He was either sleeping with his head on his desk, staring into the distance, or glaring at the girl whose name he did not know. Robert waited until all of the students were out of the class room, like he usually would. Although this time, as he went to leave, he felt a light tap on his shoulder. With his hopes high, thinking he could make a friend, he turned around with a smile on his face and yelled like he usually would “Hey, what was that about, you’re a joking aren’t you!?” Robert was never good at conversing, deep down he was a quiet boy, but when it came to socialising, he would try his best, but his best only annoyed people. “Mr Stansworth! I am not your friend! I am just making sure you received the handout from yesterday when you were sick from the other students.” Mrs Debra said with an angry tone. Robert looked at the ground, turned to the doorway and ran as fast as he could. By the time he was outside the classroom, where the students eat their lunch, he realised where he would usually sit alone, was the unknown girl from his class. He blushed, and walked in the other direction, looking for another place to sit alone. Robert was not a brave boy, he was too scared to sit next to, or even talk to the girl. He sat down in the place where he could see the girl, he pulled out his notebook and pencil, and began to sketch her. Robert thought that the girl was not able to see him from where he was sitting, but he was wrong. She noticed, and smiled. Robert smiled back, with his cheeks as red as cherries. Robert turned around to see that the girl’s brother was on the walking path behind him, she didn’t look at him at all.

Robert stood up, and walked over to the tuckshop line, which was his greatest fear. While he was waiting in the line to buy some food a tall, built, boy pushed passed Robert and said with a cocky voice “What are you doing, you fucking loser? You think you’re allowed to show your face at this school? Why don’t you go fuck your dead mother?” It was the first time in over a year that Robert attempted to order from the tuckshop line, because around the same time each year, a different student says a similar thing. Robert never understood why most of the students treated him like this, nor did he know why the teachers would just watch. The police were involved once, but they didn’t do anything. Robert was the son of a drunk and whore, that’s what he was told by his uncle at least. Robert didn’t have person in the world to depend on, or talk to when he felt down. He was rejected by everyone in his mind, this is why he always tries hard when talking to people.
Robert left the line in an orderly fashion, with the whole school staring at him. Robert walked over to the school gate and left half way through the day, like he usually would. Robert didn’t want to go home, because he knew that what was waiting for him was a punch across the face from his uncle, and something else from his auntie, something he didn’t like to think about. He would always go to a creek near the school and skip rocks across the water.

When he arrived to the creek, he found a glimpse of a young girl, it was the girl he had just been sketching at his school. Robert thought she might have been troubled, because she had an irritating look on her face. As he went to walk towards her, he saw a reflection from the dirty water of another person, so he quickly hid behind a bush. What awaited Robert was not something he desired to see. It was her brother, they were talking at her, but before Robert knew it, they were kissing, it didn’t look forced either. They were fall blooded siblings in love. Roberts only hope in the world had been crushed, his tiny bit of light had disappeared. Before he knew it, he had ran began to run towards two the incest freaks, grabbed a rock and attempted to smash it over the elder brother’s head. But they saw Robert coming towards them and ran as fast as they could. They didn’t want to be caught doing this, Robert could tell by the look on their faces. At this moment the only thing Robert could think about was the bullying, the lack of people supporting him, and his dead parents who he never knew a day. Robert’s blood was beginning to boil, he screamed off the top of his lungs “WHY THE FUCK DOES THIS HAPPEN TO MEEEE!!” He soon found himself on his hand and knees, punching the dirt with all his might. His tears began to slowly fall, making the dirt mud.

Before he knew it, they incest couple were out of sight. At this point, all Robert wanted was some affection, but something the complete opposite had happened. He had heard a yell coming from the distance, it was a familiar scream. Robert knew straight away that he had to leave the creek, or the situation would get deadly. Robert could not stop wondering how this man had found him, this was the only place he could be alone, away from everything. Robert began to run, but it was too late, a big beaten up red truck drove down onto the creek. The car door opened and a fat, bald, tall man jumped out “What the fuck do you think you’re doing you ungrateful little cunt?!” spat the man. “I-I’m s-sorry uncle, I was being bulli-” Robert spoke with a light voice. But the man did not care for what Robert had to say, he grabbed Robert by his hair, punched him in the gut, making him spit blood. “Are you trying to fucking ruin my reputation, you little fucker?” The uncle yelled at Robert. “N-no, I-” SMACK, before Robert new it, the rock that was in his hand collided with his uncle’s head, making him pass out. Robert could not stop there, he just kept smashing the rock on his head, over, and over again. The blood has splattered all over Robert’s body. Robert had a different look on his face, he had a twisted smile. “Heh, he, haha, AHAHA”, Robert laughed as loud as he could. He stood up, realised what he had done, checked his uncle’s temple and ran as fast he could in the creek. As Robert was sprinting, he felt a sigh of relief, his uncle did not die. Robert was not a murder.

He finally made it to a house, where a young girl was hanging out clothes, she looked to be around the age of 17. She was shorter than Robert, had brown eyes and long brown hair. She saw Robert, but did not let out a scream at the sight of the blood. She just kindly asked “Are you okay, do you need help?” she had a beautiful feel about her, a feeling that made Robert’s stomach roar. Robert walked over to her short fence, and said “Please, all I want is a friend” The girl just smiled, she did not a thing to harm Robert in any way. She asked him in side. Robert smiled. The girl said “My name’s Ashley, what’s yours?” “R-robert” he replied. This was the first time Robert was ever quiet when meeting a new person. “Come on inside” Ashley offered with a light voice. Robert shook his head and followed her into the old broken down house. The inside was completely different from the outside, it was clean, and looked new. Robert asked “Do you live here by yourself?” Ashley nodded. They two of them sat at the dinning room table. Ashley had made tea for her guest. Robert began to feel dizzy, he could barely see the girl anymore. Smack, Robert had hit the floor.

When Robert awoke, he found himself in a dark room. He tried to move, but was tied to a chair. Robert began to scream, he could not take any more darkness. “Shh” a whisper came from a short distance, it must’ve came from a close room, or even right next to him. Robert soon found himself passing out once again.

Chapter 2 – Is this reality?

It was black, nothing back darkness. No light. Nothing could be seen, or heard. Robert could not even hear himself think, let alone did he have the strength to use his voice. He could not feel anything, move any of his body parts. He never knew true darkness until this point. Robert was just a consciousness alone in a place that cannot be found. It was different from what life is. Robert could not do a thing, he could not think, smell, see, touch, or hear. His 5 senses were demolished. Robert felt himself become dizzy again, but what was the difference from being passed out? It would just be black. Robert might’ve been on the verge of death at the time, or even already dead.

After a whole year in this darkness, Robert had learned to think once again, although it was not much. All he could do was think about the colour black, it was like his memoires had disappeared. A small light in the middle of the darkness began to slowly brighten. It was something Robert had never seen, or at least something he could not remember. It was like seeing a full moon for the first time. Within this light was a face. Robert remembered this face, it was something he would remember after seeing it again. It was the girl whom he fell in love with. She looked somewhat different than she usually would, was it because her brother was not around? No. She had an evil look to her face, her eyes nor blue or green, but grey. Her skin was pale, whiter than snow. But Robert thought to himself, what is white? Why do I know this? The small face within the light let out a whisper, “Is this reality?” And from those few words Robert remembered everything, he did not want these memories, it was a better life without them. Everything was pushing through his head, the sibling lovers, his relatives, the bullies. By this time, two other small lights had appeared. It was of his mother and father, he did not knew their faces or voices, so the two faces within the lights were indescribable. “Is this reality” his mother said with a soft voice. “Is this reality?” his father said with a louder voice. Before Robert knew it, there were lights surrounding him with these faces, not only his loved ones, but his fears. “Is this reality?” was being repeated from the faces in every direction, it was ringing in his mind. They were whispers, normal voices, and screaming, all out tune. “Is this reality, Is this reality, “IS THIS REALITY” they were coming from everywhere. “This is reality” Robert let out a voice for the first time since meeting the strange girl who disappeared. It snapped into Robert’s head, this is reality. The voices slowly disappeared, and one by one the lights faded. “You did well” came a voice from nowhere. “w-who’s there?” Robert let out a voice. A light quickly snapped on in the darkness, where a person stood. “I am you”, standing in the middle of the black, was Robert. “I am the real you, you are the real me. We are one.”

In one fast blink, Robert found himself in the creek where he was looking down to the girl from his school. It was the exact same time and day from where he was one year ago. Without thinking, he run out of the creek and onto the road, where there was no person in sight. Robert found himself running along the road, hoping for someone to come. Robert was set to make it back to his school. When he arrived, it was the exact same place, with the exact same people in the exact same places. He wondered in through the gate to find something unexpected. There were people waiting for him, waving to him with smiles. Among the crowed of students, was the girl who was just in the creek, next to her was the brother, who was a male and taller version of her. “Rob, where were you, I was worried” said the girl. Robert found himself confused. He pointed towards himself, asking if they were looking at him. The girl ran up and said “Jeez, you’re such a loser, you’re our schools idol. How could you leave your own girlfriend and friends alone?” Robert, being confused, said “What are you guys talking about, don’t you all hate me?”
“Why would they hate you?” said a voice that came from the gate. Robert slowly turned around, to find two people who looked similar to himself standing and waving at him. They looked to be in their 40’s, a man and woman holding hands. “Are you talking to me” Robert let out under his breath. The girl from his school run up to him from behind, linked arms with him and said “Of course they are silly! They are YOUR parents after all.” Robert began to let out a tear, they fell one by one. He ran over to the man and woman and hugged them as tight as he could.
“It’s nice isn’t it?” said a voice.
Robert looked around, but he could not find out where the voice came from. As he looked around, all of the people around him began repeating the same thing.
“This is not reality”
“This is not reality”
“This is not reality”
“This is not reality”
“This is not reality”
“This is not reality”
Robert smacked onto the ground, grasping his head, squeezing it as hard he could. “AHHHHHHHH!!! GET OUT OF MY HEAD” Robert began to lose focus, as he was passing out, there was Ashely, smiling.
Everything turned black. Robert could not feel anything once again, or see, hear, smell.
“It was nice wasn’t it? You were loved, you felt good, right? Well, that wasn’t reality. This is what reality is…”

Chapter 3 – Ends can be happy, but only with death.

“Honestly, why won’t you just accept me?”
“Honestly, why won’t you just become one with me?”
“Honestly, why won’t you just give in to me?”
“We are the same person, so why not just attach yourself to me once again?”
“It’s not like you’re going to be treated any better in life, now is it?”
The same voice was banging through Roberts head. It was his own voice.
“If I was to accept you, would I be able to be happy?” Robert said.

“AH” Robert let out as he awoke on his bed. He had been sleeping. Robert was unsure if it was all a dream. The bed he was on did not look like his own. It was not his room. Robert jumped out the bed and walked towards the door. He slowly turned the nob and opened it. On the other side of the door was himself, glaring at Robert. The Robert on the other side of the door had black eyes. “So you decided to accept me, huh.” Said the other Robert. Robert’s face turned pale, he jumped back and let out a scream. “There is no need to be afraid. All you have to do is let me back in and everything will be fine” the other Robert whispered. Robert slowly pulled himself back onto his feet and took a few steps toward the other Robert. For the first time in the past year, he was not scared. Robert walked through the door, through the other Robert, into the darkness. Robert was standing in the darkness with a grin on his face. “I’m here, I’m finally able to be happy.” Robert began to bleed from his ears, eyes, nose, nails, and mouth. He collapsed. Robert died.

Epilogue

Robert never found out why this happened to him, who planned it, who that girl was, why he was spilt into two. This wasn’t some sort of comic or book, not all answers were there for him. The question remains as to if he was even alive to begin with. I would have to say that the plan of making Robert fall worked, it was so simple. All I had to do was mess with his mind, send him to the insane. I am Robert’s other half. I am Robert. How else would someone be able to write about everything he did? How am I here when Robert is dead? That’s something you have to find out for yourself.
