Around five minutes later, Stephen had arrived at Caley’s house, but instead of knocking, he just invited himself in. “God, don’t knock, I’ll only think you’re a thief!!” She rolled her eyes and buried her head in the pillow that was on the love seat. “I’m sorry, baby—““DON’T call me baby! It was two days until Johnny was leaving for war. Caley was undeniably not looking forward to that day, when Johnny had to leave.Instead of worrying about it, or, at least not acting like she was worried about it, she spent tons of time with her man. Weeks before, when she knew he was leaving for Iran, she would make love to him every night. She would give him the biggest kiss before he left to work, and she would tell him over, and over how much she loved him. She just couldn’t get over that this could be the last she would ever see him. At times, when she was alone, when Johnny was at work late, she would curl up in bed, and weep. She was deeply afraid of losing Johnny forever. Every night, she kept praying and praying that nothing bad would ever happen to her man. She kept asking God to keep him safe, but she still had this gut feeling that he would leave her soon. Really soon, maybe in the next day or two.  Or maybe even next week.
“Johnny, what should happen if you do…leave me…forever?” Caley asked, tears welling in her eyes. “Oh beautiful, let’s not worry about that, that’s not gonna happen, you hear?” He asked, tightly hugging Caley. Blushing, her eyes still damp, Caley replied, “Alright, babe; just please try to be careful when you’re out there fighting. I love you so much, Johnny, I really want nothing to happen to you.” She replied, the tears just flowing from her eyes. “Oh baby!!” Johnny cooed, bringing Caley close to him and holding her there. She buried her face in Johnny’s chest and sobbed. “You should just stay, Johnny.” Caley begged. “You know I can’t, sweetheart. If I do, we’d get into a lot of trouble with the law; you don’t want to do that now, do you?” Caley shook her head, and then buried her face in his chest again. Johnny put his hand under her chin, lifted her chin up and gave her a long, hard kiss. “Baby girl, I love you so damn much, you wouldn’t imagine how fucking much I truly love you.” Caley gave Johnny a half smile, Johnny kissed her cheek.  Let’s see your biggest smile. She smiled as big as she could. “There, now I just saw a piece of heaven!!!” Johnny grinned, picking her up. He brought her to their bedroom and made love to her.
The next morning when Caley awoke, she noticed that Johnny wasn’t by her side. “Johnny?” No answer. She looked around, but didn’t see him anywhere. “Johnny, sweetie?” Still no answer. She got up, slipped her slippers on, put her robe on, and went into the kitchen to make some coffee. Johnny snuck up behind her and grabbed her by the waist. “Oh shit, Johnny!” Caley replied, shocked and laughing. Johnny just laughed and kissed the back of her neck. Johnny quickly turned Caley around so he could get a good look at her. “Damn you look alluring today!!! I’m so damn lucky to have such a striking girl like you!” Caley just blushed and smiled. “Why thank you!”
“You’re most certainly welcome. Damn I’m lucky!” He answered, kissing her and brushing his fingers through her long, dark brunette hair. “You have such elegant eyes, Caley, the most elegant I’ve seen yet.” Johnny swept Caley off her feet and brought her to love seat, sat her down, sat by her and wrapped his arms around her. “You know, you’re gonna make me miss you way too much if you keep saying all these quixotic things, you goof.”
“I’m sorry; sweetie, but I can’t resist it. You deserve the best, and if somebody ever tries to treat you otherwise, I’ll kill them!!” Johnny replied, anger practically filling his eyes. “Honey, I love you.” Caley said, cupping her hand on his chin and kissing him. “I love you, too, gorgeous.”

“Yeah, you make sure you keep your eye on her at all times. You hear!!!” Johnny told his brother Stephen. “Don’t do anything stupid, or I’ll kill you!!!”
“Alright, dude, chill! I’ll treat her like she’s my own girlfriend, ‘cept I prolly…”
“Don’t do anything stupid!” Johnny interrupted, and then left. Stephen just rolled his eyes.
Stephen always had a thing for Caley and always wanted to sleep with her. Apparently, that wasn’t possible with Johnny around. Johnny would have killed him if he even touched her. A big smile went up on Stephen’s face. This was his chance to make a move on her, Johnny will be in Iran, so there’s no way he’ll ever find out. Unless… he thought… Caley writes him letters. Damnit!!! Stephen put his head on his hands and just sat there thinking. He’d never have a chance with Caley. Not even one.

There were only three hours left until Johnny had to leave for Iran and Caley just couldn’t sleep that night. She kept tossing and turning in bed. “Baby girl,” she heard Johnny say quietly, “what’s the matter?”
“I can’t sleep. I don’t know why.”
“Oh baby, you can tell me, it’s ok.” He replied, holding her close. “Hmm… I just can’t get over that… you’re leaving already. I mean… I can’t let you go. You need to stay… I don’t care what happens… as long as you stay with me… I won’t be able to abide being without you if you leave.”
“Baby girl, you know I have to leave, Stephen will take care of you until I get back. I love you!!”
“I love you, too.” Caley answered back, kissing Johnny. “Just write to me everyday, and you won’t miss me as much, you hear?” He kissed her again. “Yes, darling.” She replied. “And if Stephan tries anything, you tell someone, and then you write and tell me everything he’s tries and tried to do.” Caley just smiled put her hands up his shirt and rubbed his chest. “Oh… I’m going to miss you so much, darling!”
“I’m going to miss you, too, sweetheart, but just remember to write me everyday, and I’ll try to write back as soon as I can. Alright, well, I should go now; need to catch the plane. I love you gorgeous.” He held her damp face, looked into her eyes, and kissed her. “I love you, too.” She replied, and tears just started flowing down her face. He wiped her face and kissed her cheek. “Goodbye darling.”
“Goodbye, love.” Caley replied, tears still heavy on her face. He walked out the door, blowing her a kiss. She walked and plopped down on the leave seat and wept and wept and wept for three straight hours.
She finally decided to call her mom, because she just couldn’t stand living in her house all alone, but then a few minutes after she had gotten off the phone with her mom, Stephen had called. “Hi.” Caley answered in a quiet voice. “Hey sweetie, don’t be upset, you know he’ll be back.”
“I don’t know.”
“Honey, I’m coming over, Johnny wanted me to watch over you. Is that all right?”
“Mm hm.” She answered. “Well that’s good, because Johnny will beat me to a pulp if I don’t watch over you.” Caley just rolled her eyes. “Alright, whatever. Just hurry before I decide to take a walk in the park.”
Stephen sighed. “Alright. Bye.” He hung up the phone. Caley sat down on a chair and put her hands on her forehead. Oh jeez, she thought.

What makes you think you can even be over here?”
“What is wrong with you, Caley, you just got off the phone with me and knew I was coming over and you seemed alright with it, and now you’re bitching at me about it. What the fuck?!” He asked, going up to Caley and grabbed her elbows. “Don’t touch me, bastard!” She swung at him, just missing his face, and then pushed him. “Get away from me, fucker!”
“God you’re a bitch! What the hell’s wrong with you?”
“Touch me, and I’ll call the cops! Now, I’m going to my room, you can stay down here, alright? Thank you!” Caley ran upstairs into her room and locked the door. She dialed the number to her sister’s house. “Hello?” Came the answer. “Mel, how are you sweetie?”
“I’m doing fine, what’s up?” She asked. “Is it all right if I come spend a few months at your place?”
“Why, sweetie?” Melissa asked, puzzled. “Because Stephen’s here. I hate that fucker.”
“Oh come on, Caley! He’s the hottest guy on the planet!” Caley rolled her eyes, “Riiiiiiight!! No thank you. Can I just come live with you?”
“Ugh! Fine sweetie, you can stay in the guest room, there’s no other spot for you to stay at this point in time.”
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!” Caley replied excitedly, and then hung up the phone. She quickly packed up her stuff and left out the back door. Stephen hadn’t even heard the car leave when she left.
About ten minutes later, she arrived at Melissa’s house. She knocked on the door. Melissa’s husband, Domenic, answered the door. “Hey, hon, what cha need?” Caley smiled. “If it’s alright with you, Melissa said I could start living here until Johnny gets back.” Domenic just smile back. “Sure, darling.”
“Thank you, Domenic!” Caley thanked, shaking Domenic’s hand. “No problem, hon…” “Caley!!” Melissa ran over to Caley and gave her a hug. “Hey, Mel! How are you?”
“I’m doing fine; Jeremy and Luke are in the other room playing with toys.” Caley smiled and nodded her head. “So, what have you and Johnny been up to lately?” Asked Mel, her arm around Caley’s shoulder. “Oh, not a whole lot. Johnny… had to… go to war in Iran.” Caley replied sadly. Melissa stopped and hugged Caley. “Everything will be alright, hon. Everything will be alright.” Caley took a deep breath and tried to keep from crying. “You wanna go sit on the swing with me?”
“Sure!” Caley half smiled and followed Melissa to the swing. They both sat out on the swing and chatted for three and a half hours. By the time they were done chatting, it was already ten at night. “Wow! I’m really getting tired. I think I’ll head to bed. I love you, Caley.” Melissa kissed the top of Caley’s head. “Alright, I think I’ll try to get some sleep, too.” They both walked inside and went to bed.
Caley woke up at around two in the morning, tears rolling down her face. She buried her face in the pillow, trying to make herself stop crying. She ended up staying awake for the rest of the night. She was dead tired when morning came around, but she still couldn’t fall asleep. So, she finally decided to get up and make some coffee. When she went into the kitchen, she found Melissa in there. “How’d you sleep darling?” Melissa asked without looking. “Not well. I woke up at two, crying. I couldn’t go back to sleep.” Melissa frowned at Caley. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, it’s not your fault.” Melissa hugged Caley. “Do you have any Tylenol PM or something? I’m exhausted.” Caley asked.
“Yeah, I do. It’s in the cabinet to the right in the bathroom. It’s on the top.” Without responding, Caley went into the bathroom and got some Tylenol PM. It was just barely five minutes later when Caley passed out, curled up, on one of the couches. Melissa covered her up with a blanket, and kissed her forehead.
When Caley woke up, it was already three o’clock in the afternoon. “Holy CRAP, I’m late for work!! Damnit!!” Caley quickly got up, and brushed her fingers through her hair nervously. “Don’t worry, sweetie, I’ll call ‘em up and tell ‘em you’re sick.”
“Oh thank you, I really do appreciate that, but I need to get to work; I’ll get into trouble if I don’t.”
“Caley, you need to stay here, take it easy for a coupla days. I’ll tell them you’re extremely sick and you need to stay home for a week.” Caley just sat on the couch and rested her head in her hands. “Alright, I’m not even gonna argue.” Melissa smiled. “Good girl!”
The next night, at around nine at night, there was a knock at the door. Melissa went to answer it. “Oh, hi.” She answered. “I’ll be right back.” Melissa walked into the kitchen, “Somebody’s here for you!” Melissa replied, rolling her eyes. “Oh geez!” Caley started walking over to where Stephen was. “Oh thank God! I thought somebody had kidnapped you.” Caley just rolled her eyes. “Didn’t I tell you to leave me alone?!”
“Yes, but I was worried sick somebody had kidnapped you!” He replied, going over to her, grabbing her and kissing her. Caley swung at him, “LEAVE me alone, you fucker!!! Don’t touch me! Get out, get OUT!!” She yelled, pushing him out the door, “And don’t come back!!!” He raised his eyebrows, and then walked out the door without saying a word. Caley growled under her breath. “God I hate him!!”
“Calm down sweetie, he’s only trying to protect you.” Melissa said, walking back to the kitchen. “Protect me my ass!! He only wants my ass!! You can just tell it by the look in his eyes. He can’t keep his dick in his god-forsaken pants!!”
“STOP it!!!” Melissa swung around, “Stop it RIGHT now!!! Like I told you before, he’s only trying to fucking protect you, he doesn’t want to get his ASS chewed when Johnny gets back, that’s why he SEEMS like he’s trying to get his dick in your pussy. He’s only trying to PROTECT you!!!!!!!” Caley sighed, and rolled her eyes, “Whatever! Well, I need to take a walk, I’ll be back!!” Caley put on her shoes, got into her jacket, and walked outside where the cold wind stung her face and practically made her forget everything that just happened. She walked about two miles from the house, and then she turned around and walked back, her body shivering and trembling from the cold, she could even see her breath.
“Honey, you got something in the mail.” Melissa replied when she got back. “Really?” Caley asked, her teeth still chattering from the cold. “Yes, darling, and go take a shower and put on one of my robes and slippers; go warm yourself up first, then I’ll let you look at it.” Caley laughed, “Alright!” She walked upstairs, into the bathroom, stripped herself, and got into the shower. About two or three minutes into her shower, she started to think, what if Johnny’s dead, what if that’s a letter telling me that Johnny’s dead? She immediately started shaking. She was so scared. She didn’t want Johnny to be out of her life forever. But, almost instantly, she thought that maybe it wasn’t a letter like that. Maybe Johnny somehow found out that she was at her sister’s place and knew what address to send the letter to. A big smile formed on her face. She was still smiling when she got out of the shower. She quickly dried off, put Melissa’s robe and slippers on, combed her hair, and brushed her teeth. When she saw Melissa, there was a serious look on her face. Although she hadn’t opened the letter, Melissa knew it wasn’t good news. “Here, baby girl!” She handed the letter to Caley. She looked at the address at which it was from and instantly knew it wasn’t good news. Caley slowly and carefully opened the envelope and pulled out the letter.
She opened it and read: Dear Caley, we are very sorry to bring you bad news, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience. Johnny had been flying in his plane to Babol, Iran, when the plane’s engine started on fire. The plane instantly went down and killed your Johnny. Once again, we are very sorry for the bad news and inconvenience, and hope you are able to get over it soon.
Signed,
Col. O’Ryan
Tears spilled down Caley’s face; she tried reading the letter again, but couldn’t because her eyes were too blurry, so she threw the letter on the floor, ran up to her room, buried her face in the pillow and bawled. Melissa ran to her room, and went in without knocking. “OH baby girl!” Melissa cried as she went over to Caley and held her. She didn’t say anything. She couldn’t say anything. She just sat there holding Caley in her arms, combing her fingers through her hair. Tears were still streaming down Caley’s face. Soon, Caley starting wheezing, “I…need my… inhaler!”
“Where is it, honey?” Caley just pointed to the top of the dresser. Melissa nodded her head and went over to get the inhaler. She gave it to Caley. “Thank you, dear.”
“You bet.” Melissa hugged Caley, and kissed her cheek, “Baby girl, I’m so sorry, I really wish there was something I could do. I’m so, so sorry!” Tears started streaking down Melissa’s face as well. Soon, they heard a knock on the door. “What’s wrong, girls?” Domenic asked, worry in his eyes. Melissa handed the letter that she had in her hands over to Domenic, “Read this!” Melissa answered. Domenic quickly read the letter. He went over to the girls, grabbed Caley’s hands, pulled her up and gave her a huge hug. Caley buried her face in his chest. He just stood there holding her, rocking her side to side. “You can stay here for as long as you want, sweetie!” Domenic finally said. He looked over at Melissa, and she smiled. He smiled back. Domenic bent down and kissed Caley on the cheek. “I think you need to take off from work for a couple weeks, darling, you hear?” He asked, calmly. Caley nodded her head and smiled. “Are you gonna be alright, dear?”
“I think so!” Domenic let her go and she went to sit on her bed. “Well, if you girls wanna come down and have some coffee, you’re more than welcome to.” Caley smiled, grabbed Melissa’s hands, and pulled her off the bed. “Come on, sweetie, let’s go get some coffee!” Melissa just grinned. “Alright!” They all went down stairs, and enjoyed their cups of coffee.
