It was already that next Monday, but Kim had forgotten that she had a meeting with her employer, Robyn White. If she missed that, she might get written up, so she really didn’t want to miss it, so Kim decided to call Dawn and talk to her about it. “Dawn darling, I forgot I have a very important meeting today with my employer, and if I don’t go to that, I’ll get written up. It’s not that I don’t want to watch Toni and Karey, I just can’t afford to lose my job.”

“And… what makes you think that?” Kim asked her fiancé, Curt Vanning.
“Because you keep fucking around with other guys. I might as well just leave!” Curt threatened. Kim squinted her eyes, “I’m not fucking around with other men!! What’s gotten into you, Curtis Vanning?” Curt put down his cigarette that he was about to light. “What’s gotten into ME? HA, you’re a fool, Kimberly Connel! Who was that man that was over here on Friday? That dark brunette, brown-eyed man, about six and a half feet tall! Who the hell was that? You’re father!?!” Kim rolled her eyes. “I’m sorry, Kim, we’re over!”
“GREAT!!! Leave asshole! LEAVE!!!” Kim screamed, pushing Curt.
Don’t push me, bitch!!!” Curt yelled back, slapping Kim across the face. Tears streaked Kim’s face. “Just leave.” Curt grabbed his suitcase and bags and left, slamming the door behind him. “Oh god, what is wrong with me?” Kim asked herself out loud, through sobs. She decided she would call her lover, Casey Schilling and tell him she didn’t want him anymore. Maybe she could somehow save her relationship with Curt. She was in love with him. She couldn’t bear to see him hurting like this. It killed her. She knew he loved her; she loved him. She almost attempted to call him and tell him she was sorry and to give her one last chance, but then she thought he was probably too upset with her, so she decided to wait about a week, then, she’d tell him how she really felt about him.
As the week crawled by, she began seeing a new guy, Alex Henning; she just couldn’t keep her eyes off of him.
One morning, after a long night of sex, Kim found out that she was pregnant. Immediately, she regretted everything that just happened and she couldn’t look Alex in the eyes. So, after that morning, she never saw him again.
Kim went to the doctor the next week to see if she really was pregnant. She was. Her face turned white when she saw the positive. If Curt finds out about this, he’s surely not going to come back, Kim thought to herself; abortion, get money for an abortion. She was quite upset at the idea, but she’d rather lose a baby over Curt.
“Mom, dad…”
“What, darling? What is it?” Kim’s father, Frank, interrupted.
“I-I’m p-p-pregnant.” Kim replied, swallowing hard.
“Congratulations, sweetie!” Her mother, Stacey, congratulated.
“I-It’s not Curt’s baby.” Stacey’s face immediately turned white with anger. “WHAT?!” Stacey screamed, got up and started shaking Kim. “We’ve raised you better than that, Kimberly Connel, what the hell’s the matter with you?!” Frank just stared at Kim with disapproval in his eyes, shaking his head.
“I was going to ask… if… you’d… be willing to, umm… lend me some… money… for an abortion.” Kim said, Stacey’s eyes widened. “No.” Frank said flatly.
“What?” Kim asked, knowing what he said, but not knowing why. “No.” He repeated.  “I know, but why?”
“Because our family does not allow it. If it happens, you will no longer be a part of this family. Is that clear, Kim?”
“Yeah.” Kim answered, tears welling in her eyes. “I just wanted to get Curt back-“
Curt back? What did you do now?” Frank asked, furious.
“I-I’ve been messing around with too many guys. I was having an affair.” Kim said, looking at the floor.
“You’re a fool; I thought you loved Curt!” Stacey remarked coldly. “I do love-“
“No you don’t! If you truly loved Curtis, you never would have cheated on him, you little whore!” Stacey yelled and slapped Kim across the face really hard. “And remember what I said, Kimberly Connel;” Frank explained, “You have an abortion, and you’re not allowed in this family!” Kim just stared at her father. She walked out the door and drove back to her place.

Two days later, the news about Kim’s pregnancy was out everywhere, yet somehow, Curt hadn’t found out. He would find out soon.
Kim’s mother wasn’t the type of mother that kept secrets for long. Within the next week, Stacey had called Curt and told him the whole story, which made him furious. He promised he was never going to back to that damn whore. Curt had called Kim up the evening that Stacey had told him about Kim’s pregnancy and totally bitched her out and told her he was never coming back. “Oh please Curt, please don’t leave me-“click. The phone went dead. Kim started sobbing. She picked up one of her most valuable glass vases and threw it across the room. It hit the wall and was smashed into a bunch of little pieces that flew everywhere. She leaned against a wall, but her knees were so weak, she sank and put her hands over her face and started weeping, and weeping.

It was about two in the afternoon the next day when Kim awoke to somebody knocking loudly on the door.
“Kim! Kim! It’s Dawn, please unlock your door!” Dawn was Kim’s older sister, her only sister. Kim lazily got up and unlocked the door. Kim’s eyes were still swollen from the previous night. “I’ve heard everything, darling!” Dawn replied, and continued, “you’ve gotta stop messing around with other men, or you won’t be able to get back the man you love. You love Curt, right?” Dawn asked in her sweet, calm voice of hers. “Yes, I do.”
“Then stop your act!” Dawn said, a little fiercer now. “I’ll help you get Curt back, but only if you stop messing around with those other men, ok?” Kim nodded her head, and gave Dawn a half smile. Dawn smiled back and hugged her little sister. Well, her big sister. She was two inches taller than her now.
“You’re the most amazing sister ever, Dawn.”
“I’ll be an even more amazing sister if you get Curt back. But that’s not going to happen if you don’t stop playin’ around.” Kim made a sad face. Dawn brushed her fingers through Kim’s hair, “I love you, sweetheart.”
“I love you, too.” Kim replied and kissed Dawn’s cheek. “How’s Tyler been doing?”
“Oh, he’s been doing fine, been quite busy for him this week, especially with the twins.” They both laughed.
“How are those two cuties comin’ along?”
“Cute as ever, but extremely mischievous, ugh!!” Kim gave Dawn a big smile. “Say, you wouldn’t mind watching Toni and Karey on Monday would you?” Kim shook her head. “Nah, it should be fine. I don’t think I’m busy that day.”
“Ok. Hey, the main reason I came here is to bring you to Coffee Nau for some coffee or cappuccinos or something. How’s that sound?” Kim smiled and replied, “Sounds great, darling. What the hell we waiting for anyways?” They giggled, ran outside, hopped in Dawn’s car and drove to Coffee Nau. Both Dawn and Kim had two cups of coffee and Kim had one caramel cappuccino.
“Well, my darling Kimberly Connel, I better get to work before it’s too late. I love you and remember what I said.” Kim nodded her head, promising herself she wouldn’t mess around anymore. Dawn drove Kim back to her house, then drove to work.

“Oh darling, it’s fine; I’ll just ask mom if she’ll be willing to watch them.” Dawn exclaimed, a bit disappointed that Kim hadn’t told her this before. “Well, you know the meeting only goes for an hour, so I’ll pick them up after I’m done with it. Is that ok with you?”
“Yeah, it’s fine, sweetie, just don’t forget.”
“Alright sweets. I’ll talk to you later.” Click. Kim just lifted her eyebrows and sighed.

Kim quickly drove to her work for the meeting with Robyn White, but instead of it lasting an hour, it had lasted an hour and a half, which kind of made Kim a bit upset. After the meeting was over, she raced over to her mother’s, but on her way there, she got pulled over by a cop. She had been caught going at a speed of 120 miles an hour. “Do you realize how fast you were driving, miss?” The cop asked.
“About a 120, 125 or something.” Kim responded truthfully. “I’m glad there’s honest people like you around here, and since you were being honest, I’m going to cut your fine in half. Instead of it being 103 dollars, I’ll make it fifty-one dollars and fifty cents.” Kim smiled, handed the cop her license, waited until he came back, and handed him the fifty-one dollars and fifty cents. “Drive slower now, you hear?” She just nodded her head, and then took off when the cop disappeared.

When she arrived at her mother’s place, she realized that her mother, Hillary, was gone, and Toni was lying on her stomach, but Karey was also gone. “Sweetie, Toni?” No answer, so she asked again, “Toni sweetie, are you ok? Where are Grandma Hillary and Karey?” There was still no answer. Kim started freaking out. She went over to Toni and turned her over. Her eyes were rolled to the back of her head and blood was caked on her mouth. Kim started screaming and panicking. “OH MY GOD!!! OH MY GOD!!!” She quickly picked up the house phone and dialed 911. “Damnit you fucking cop, she’s bleeding out of her god-damned mouth!!! Get your dumb ass paramedics over here so we can make sure she doesn’t die, Damnit!!!”
“Darling, Kim, you need to calm down, we already have the paramedics coming your way, so please no worries.” The cop replied, calmly.
“Thank you.” Kim replied then hung up. She paced around the room with her hands in her hair, ready to scream and cry. Soon, she decided she needed to call Dawn and tell them what’s happened. “Hello?”
“Hi Dawn, its Kim!! Something’s happened to Karey and mom; they’ve gone missing. Toni’s lying on the floor on her stomach with blood in her mouth!!” Dawn screamed, startling everybody that was close by on their computers. “I called the cops and they’re sending out the paramedics right now! I don’t know what else to do. I just got here a little bit ago, because the meeting went half an hour longer. Oh! I wish I would have just left that stupid meeting. I would so rather lose my dumb job then to lose my beautiful nieces and mother. I’m so sorry. I’m such a terrible person.” Kim said, sobbing in the phone. “Baby girl, don’t worry about it, I’ll tell my boss it’s urgent and I need to leave right now, ok? I’ll be there in about ten minutes or less.” She hung up the phone, told her boss she needed to go home right that instant because of what was going on, and then she left and raced home.

“Kim! Kim, where are you, dear?”
“Oh good, you’re here.” Kim replied throw sobs.
“I’ll be right back; I think I know where mom and Karey are.” Dawn ran out the door to the back of the house and noticed that Hillary and Karey were lying on their backs. Blood was streaming down both of their chins from their mouths. Dawn screamed as loud as she possibly could, ran up to them, and cradled them both in her arms and cried.

It was about two minutes after Dawn had gotten there that the paramedics had arrived. They immediately saw Dawn in the back, but only two of them went back to check up on Hillary and Karey. They first checked Hillary’s pulse, and noticed she didn’t have one. They checked her breathing, but noticed she wasn’t breathing either. They started looking around on her and noticed a bullet hole on the back of Hillary’s head. Blood was everywhere on the back of her head. Dawn just sat their, tears streaming down her face. Then, they checked Karey. They neither found a pulse, nor was she breathing. They found two bullet holes in her chest.

In the house, the other two paramedics were examining Toni, and found she wasn’t breathing or had a pulse either. “I’m sorry, um-“
“Kim.” Kim interrupted.
“I’m sorry, Kim, but it seems this little girl is gone. It’s too late to try to bring her back.” Kim got up, grabbed one of the paramedics by the shirt collar and shook him yelling, “Damnit, you stupid fool!! Isn’t there anything you can do to revitalize her?! Shock her back to life, Damnit!”
“We can’t. She’s been gone for too long. I’m really sorry.” Cold fury showed in Kim’s eyes, but she said nothing. She had nothing to say. About the time the paramedic was done telling this to Kim, Dawn walked into the house, eyes swollen and wet with tears. She went over to Kim and gave her a huge hug. “I’m so sorry, Dawn. If it wasn’t for my stupid… if I hadn’t gone to that stupid meeting-“
“Darling… don’t blame yourself. It would have happened no matter what. It really isn’t your fault.” Dawn then buried her face in Kim’s hair and sobbed and sobbed and sobbed.

That next Thursday, they had the funeral for Hillary, Karey and Toni. Tyler had been there holding Dawn tightly in his arms, also crying, silently. Surprisingly, after they had gotten to the cemetery for the burial, Kim had realized that Curt was there.  She swallowed hard and really tried hard not to think about it. He was probably just there for the funeral and nothing else. Her oldest brother, Jaysen, held Kim in his arms and comforted her. Kim kept whispering to herself, “I’m such a terrible person; I’m such a terrible person.” At one point, Jaysen heard Kim whispering this to herself and said, “Kim, you’re not a terrible person, this would have happened to anyone.” Kim just buried her head in his chest and sobbed, not saying a word.

It had been two weeks that Kim had been staying with Dawn and Tyler. “You know, Dawn, I should really pay you back for what happened. I’ll take you and Tyler to Ireland, or Hawaii.” Dawn smiled really big, “Oh darling, it’s okay; I don’t know why you have to be so harsh on yourself. You know it wasn’t at all your fault. It would have happened to anyone of us.” Kim just sighed. “I guess you’re right.” Dawn smiled and kissed Kim on the cheek. “Thank you for finally realizing that it wasn’t at all your fault. Thank you.” Kim just looked at Dawn and didn’t say anything. “I’ll do you a favor of being such a wonderful sister by talking Curt into taking you back.”
“You really think he’ll take me back?” Kim asked, almost doubtful.
“Oh, I have my ways, darling, you just wait and see for yourself.” Dawn said, kissing Kim’s forehead. When Dawn said she’d talk to Curt about taking Kim back, she actually meant it. She grabbed her cell phone and immediately dialed Curt’s number. “What are you doing?”
“Calling Curtis.” Dawn replied, smugly.
“Why?” Kim nervously asked.
“You’ll see.” Dawn smiled. “Hello there, Curtis Vanning. How are you doing these fine days?”
“Oh, I’m doing fine, been looking for a new job. Been offered a couple down on Maple Street by Lamberton.”
“Oh that’s good to hear. Curt, about last month, you and Kim, you know? Um… Kim hasn’t been seeing any other men. It’s been only you, darling. That man that was over that Friday was her ex-co-worker Hans Lloyd. He was visiting for business, nothing else. Curt, Kim really loves you. Darling, she’s in love with you. She would never do anything to hurt you. Please take her back, she really needs you and I know you really need her. So please, it would make both Kim and me very happy to see that you two are together again.” Curt hesitated on the other end, really thinking about it. Kim sat across the living room listening to Dawn, wide-eyed and nervous.
“Hmm… I’ll have to think about that. Are you sure that that’s all true?”
“I am completely positive, Curtis. She told me everything, and I know her better than that.”
“Well, let me think on it, and I’ll let you know what my answer is by next week, okay?”
“Alrighty!”
“What did he say?” Kim asked after Curt hung up the phone.
“He said he’ll think on it. To give him about a week to think.”
“Oh.” Kim replied, a sad look in her eyes. Dawn looked at Kim, went to her and gave her a hug. “Darling, let’s not worry about it, okay? I know Curt will take you back; he just needs some time to cool him down a bit.” Kim just gave Dawn a half smile, and hugged Dawn back.
“You’re probably right; I just need to stop worrying so much. But what if he doesn’t take me back?” Kim asked, fear in her eyes.
“You just need to stop thinking like that, Kimberly, he’s going to take you back, and I know he is. I have this giant gut feeling that he will take you back. So don’t you be worrying about it, okay?”

A week had already passed by, but Kim still hadn’t heard anything from or about Curt. Two days had gone by, and Kim was taking a nap on her couch, when the phone rang. Kim lazily got up, and answered the phone.
“Hello?” Kim asked sleepily.
“Oh! Did I wake you?” Curt asked a little disappointed.
“Yeah, but its fine. You need something?”
“Kim, I… was hoping… can I take you out to eat this Wednesday?” Kim woke up from her hypnotic stance, “Oh darling! I mean, yes! When do you want to meet there, and where do you want to meet?” Kim asked, excited, and feeling relieved that Curt was probably going to take her back.
“Oh, I was actually thinking about picking you up. I was going to surprise you by just showing up, but I decided to call you to see what you’re doing. I think I’ll just show up at your door, kind of like a lil’ surprise, is that okay?” Kim smiled.
“Yes that’s okay, darling Curtis.”
“Alright, don’t forget okay?”
“Oh sweetie, of course I won’t forget.” Kim said, but found she was talking to a dead phone. Kim had the biggest smile and decided to call Dawn.
“Hey Dawn, you would not believe what just happened!!!” Kim replied, practically yelling in the phone.
“Ouch! Quiet down, goof. What happened?” Dawn asked, switching the phone to her other ear.
Curt! He wants to bring me out for dinner!!!”
“That’s awesome, sweetie, I’m glad you two could work things out, I mean, I hope you two can work things out, I hope you don’t mess up again. I mean, not that you wouldn’t, I just thought I’d through that out there.” Kim just laughed.
“Oh! Good grief.” Kim replied, rolling her eyes.
“Serious. If you mess up one more time, don’t expect me to help you get him back, alright?”
“Yes ma’am!” Kim said and heard Dawn hang up the phone. Kim just nodded her head and smiled. Jeez, people are so rude these days, Kim thought to herself, hanging up the phone on me like that; I wasn’t even done telling her… oh well, whatever I guess.

It was already that next Wednesday at around twelve noon when there was a knock on the door. Kim sprang up from her chair, quickly straightened her hair and dress and slowly walked to the door and unlocked it. But, instead of looking up to see who it was, she just stood there staring at the floor. She immediately felt a hand under her chin, and raised her chin and kissed her lips. “You look damn beautiful, today, Kimberly.” Kim just smiled and blushed. “Why, thank you.” Kim responded, shyly.
“Anytime, beautiful.” Kim just blushed and smiled.
“Where are we going, sweets?” Kim asked, while they were walking out to Curt’s car.
“I was thinking… how does Olive Garden sound?”
“That sounds lovely, darling.” Kim replied, getting into the car.

By the time they had gotten to Olive Garden, it was already one-thirty, because they had to wait for a train to pass.
Kim started getting out of the car, but Curt instantly stopped her from getting out. He walked to her side of the car, opened the door, grasped her hand, and helped her out of the car. Kim smiled a huge smile. “Why, thank you, Curt. That was very kind of you.” Curt kissed her hand and led her to the restaurant, picked a booth and let her sit down, and sat down across from her. While they were waiting for the waitress to come and order their food, Curt just sat on his side, holding Kim’s hands and stared into her eyes.
“I love you, Kim.” Curt said after a while.
“I love you, too.” Kim replied. Soon, the waitress came with their food, took both their orders, and came back within twenty minutes with their food. They ate in peace and quiet, and when they were done eating, Curt took Kim to the park. Curt, again, helped Kim out of the car, kept holding her hand, and led her to the swings. He took one swing, and she took another right beside his. They swung slowly, holding hands, and occasionally kissing each other.
“I’m so sorry for blaming everything on you, baby, I just had a terrible week, and I thought you were playin’ with my heart. Especially since that guy was over that once. I found out that wasn’t how I thought it was after your sister called me last week. I’m really sorry. I love you, Kim, and I just wanted to let you know that.” Curt apologized, got up, and hugged Kim really tight. Curt lightly kissed Kim on the lips and held her tightly and kissed her neck, and said one last time before they left for home, “I love you baby girl, and I hope to keep you forever and ever, and I’ll never let you go. I love you so much. I think we should go though; I think it’s going to rain.”
Kim just nodded her head; they began walking towards the car and went home.
