A metaphorical piece about blaming yourself after a relationship ending badly.

Perhaps it is my fault for wanting you so badly;
For giving into temptation and seeking out
the sin which I seemed to crave so madly.

Maybe it was me who whisked you away
and into the darkness of my room– I can’t recall –
where the fear of being caught couldn’t keep our lust at bay.

I must have remembered it all wrong
when I thought that it was you who held me
and made me feel like it was here that I belong.

It couldn’t have been as mutual as I thought
when our lips pressed to each other’s so fiercely.
Oh, I can’t believe that I’ve forgot.

Because it certainly can’t be that you would lie,
that you would accuse me falsely of seduction
and leave me here to cry.

It couldn’t have been you that made me want this,
that made me hunger for more of this passion
as I leaned into your kiss.

It must have been me.
