Alisha has been suffering from night terrors. Each time she goes to sleep It finds her.
This is part two of a 3 part anthology series where each story takes a step further away from reality.

Alisha

Alisha wrapped herself in green sheets and burrowed deep under the comforter.A boom of thunder echoed through the sky.A flash of lightning struck the ground somewhere in the distance and then was silent. She grabbed her worn teddy bear and squeezed it tightly. she knew sixteen was too old for a stuffed bear named Cinnamon but with the nights she was having she needed the comforts of childhood. The grey rain pelted her window harder as if to break it.That song started to play on the radio.”Sleep Maya you are in ancient hands/close your eyes what beautiful eyes you have.”

Alisha turned to look at the pills on her nightstand: one pink and one yellow. The doctor said one would help her sleep. The other was to stop the nightmares. She swallowed them quickly.Their bitter taste was left in the back of her mouth. She could feel the pills quickly take effect. In no time at all her eyes had closed and behind her fluttering eyelids a storm of a nightmare brewed.

Alisha found herself running through a forest at dusk. That song was playing. Her t-shirt and shorts that had been torn by the branches reaching out for her. Her heart beat faster and faster. She knew it was chasing her.Her bare foot caught on a root and she fell to the ground hard. Her hands were cut and bleeding. She felt a hot breath on the nape of her neck. She turned to face the horror that stood before her.The beast was the size of a wolf and it’s skin was green and slimy. It’s fanged mouth took up most of its body.Alisha felt a drop of drool fall on her leg.The monster lunged to consume its prey her scream pierced the forest.

Alisha woke in her bed screaming. When she saw Cinnamon in her arms she realized she was in her own room, safe. She heard the Maya song play on the radio. “Maya don't cry.”

In the dark she could hear somthing breathing.
