My heart was pounding and my hands were numb, as I stared at the face I assumed was death. With long black hair, and beady black eyes, I watched as this creature before me paced back in forth, and then ran left to right. This monster’s odd behavior bemused me slightly, but overall its presence put fear in my heart anytime it came too close. I tried to pry my frozen limbs from the snow which held me down, but all I accomplished was a slight nod of my head which caught the creature’s attention. Terrified that I had somehow attracted the abomination to myself, I felt my eyes roll to the back of my head and fell back into the rigid snow. Unconsciousness overwhelmed me, and all the hope I had of being rescued was violently chipped away. I found myself in an American Eagle store, and whipped around in furious circles admiring the buffet of merchandise and clothing the little man had just laid out for me. Excitement roared in my eyes, as I grabbed clothes and shoes which turned into books, and perfume at my touch. Suddenly spinning around on the heel of my foot, I thanked the little man and gave him a coconut. After receiving my gift of gratitude, the lithe man grinned wickedly, and everything I had in my arms began to melt and fade. Hysterical, I ran away and tried to open the door, but it locked itself. My head then became an inferno inside, and I could feel my mind melt then pour out through my ears. Screaming I woke into reality, and threw trembling hands to my ears, they were hot as hell. I sat up and surveyed the room I was in. The carpet was a deep shade of what I assumed was ginger, and the walls were made of wooden logs. Just as I had set my feet onto the carpet a strange choking noise came from behind me, and a door slammed shut. Instantly feeling a gust of cold snow hit my back, I became almost paralyzed and twisted around on the cot and saw what first appeared to be a yeti, but then realized it was a girl in a thick white fur coat. The girl in the coat made wild hand gestures, and muffled sounds as she ran to my feet and threw them back up on the cot. Curious, I looked down at the carpet and saw a space heater that was lying on its back. Slowly I began to understand and saw that my feet were red and swollen with the mark of the heater’s coils. The girl then removed the heavy coat and smiled at me. It was then that it hit me, I had almost died in the avalanche, and this girl must have saved me. “Who are you?” I asked as I searched her face as though the answer were written on it.
