We all say we're fine, and we know we're not... maybe that's why we never know what it means to truly be intimate!

A familiar friend approaches me and asks the unfortunate question,

 “How are you?”

 “Fine” is my reply.

 “FINE”

the lie that rlsoff my tongue

ol

with the

greatest of ease

carrying with it the horrific stench of pure excrement

 The truth is,

I’M NOT FINE!

I have a burning conviction,

That none of us,

are at our core, fine.

Yet the lie p

shielding us from the fire of pure intimacy.

If we were at all honest beings,

We would rather die than miss the chance

to burn within that fire

When we are given faint glimpses of this inferno,

It is fear that f  -  u  -  e  -  l  -  s our lying tongues

It is like the young prince

Or perhaps the once beautiful princess

who’s beauty is now defined by

the white residue just above her lips.

Her beloved prince charming, is the one

So may I ask,

“????????????How are You????????????”

A Stranger

What a unique style to your poem. It forces the reader to read, then follow, decipher and ultimately as the questions. A forced look in the mirror. well done.
