Trevor lay awake yet another night, just waiting for the incessant tapping to start.  It never seemed to fail, every night as he was about to drift off to sleep, he would hear a tapping at his window. As if someone were trying to get in, but he knew that someone was. It was a lady, and she always tried to persuade him to open the window. She started off being very friendly, however lately, she had become more aggressive. Trevor was terrified of the lady, but when he tried to tell his mother about it, she just sarcastically told him to keep taking his drugs. What was he supposed to do? No one would believe him, and they would think that he was insane. His thoughts were quickly interrupted by a tapping at his window. “Let me in boy,” said a raspy voice. “Let me in, I can help you.” Trevor quickly pulled the covers up to his chin and turned up the volume on the T.V. Trevor jumped as the T.V. clicked off and the room filled with darkness. “I said let me in!” the crackled voice shouted. The tapping at the window quickly turned to pounding. “Let me in boy, you need help!” Trevor tried to work up the courage to respond to the lady, but as he opened his mouth to speak, he couldn’t force any sound to come out. “I see you trying to speak boy, out with it!” the voice exclaimed. Trevor shook in terror, trying to work up the guts to crawl out of his bed and over to his door, but it felt as if something were holding him down.

After struggling, Trevor was finally able to speak. “Mom!” he shouted frantically. “Mom help!”

“Your mother can’t hear you boy, it’s just you and me.” Trevor clenched the sheets and began to cry. “Why are you crying boy? I’m just trying to help you, just open up the window.”

“No!” Trevor shouted back. “Go away, I don’t want you in here!”

“That’s too bad child, because I’ll find a way in.”  Trevor unclenched the sheets several minutes later, there was silence. His T.V. clicked back on and everything was as it should be. There was still an uneasy feeling though, why wouldn’t this lady leave Trevor alone? And why did she choose him off all people? Trevor decided to try and forget about the whole situation and watch some T.V. He finally began to drift off to sleep. That was until the tapping started back. “Let me in child,” whispered the harsh, uneasy voice. “Juts for a minute and then I’ll leave.”

“Go away,” Trevor mumbled, trembling in his bed.

Trevor quickly turned as he heard someone outside his door. “I’m in child, I’m in.” Trevor tried to move from his bed as he heard the dragging of feet coming down the hall. “You don’t have to be afraid anymore child, I’m here.” Trevor closed his eyes so tight it felt as if his skin was going to rip. The door know slowly turned and the door creaked open. Slowly, the dragging footsteps made it to his bed. As Trevor looked up, he saw a large, dark figure standing over him. His eyes quickly shut as he saw the figure raise its arm, holding a large knife. There was a sharp pain in Trevor’s chest, and he drifted off.

Trevor’s mother cried frantically as she watched the nurse give Trevor his shot in the chest. It was better than watching him scream endlessly though. “Don’t worry honey, your boy’s sleeping now, having sweet dreams. We’ll have to keep an eye on him though. I don’t know how he managed to lock himself in there, I’ve been trying to get in for days. It’s lucky he’s alright, seeing as how he hasn’t had his medicine in so long.” The nurse turned and walked down the long, dimly lit hallway at the mental hospital. Trevor’s mother blew her son a kiss through the window, and left, alone.
