You sit and drink your coffee thinking "The last thing I need is an interruption."
You read your book thinking "The last thing I need is another genre."
You watch TV thinking "The last thing I need is to go outside."
You hear that someone died and think "The last thing I need is for it to be a friend."
You see a car accident and think "The last thing I need is for that to happen to me."
You see a mugging and think "The last thing I need is for them to come after me."
Well, life doesn't work in that kind of way.
You get interrupted and think "If I wasn't, I would have missed my class."
You try another genre and think "If I hadn't, I wouldn't have discovered this story."
You go outside and think "If I hadn't, I wouldn't appreciate what the world is like."
Your friend dies and you think "If they didn't, I wouldn't understand another person's sorrow."
You're in an accident and you think "If I hadn't been, I would never learn my lesson."
You get mugged and think "If I hadn't been, I would never feel bad for a person who deserves sympathy."
Lots of people think about these things as the last thing they need. But sometimes, the last thing you need is just the thing you need.
