While I was at work today, I noticed a sign posted on a piece of equipment in a back hallway that read "High Voltage--Keep Away." Boy oh boy, did that bring back some wonderful childhood memories!I'll never forget the day my parents first suggested I play high voltage keep-away with my brother and our next-door neighbor Timmy. It was right after a powerful storm, and one of the power lines had fallen down. We weren't sure how to play at first, so my father explained the rules to us.
"See that sparking cable out there? Well, all you and your brother need to do it toss it back and forth, and try to keep one of your friends from catching it. I'll bet Timmy would love to play with you. Why don't you go and ask him?"
Yep, that sure was a fun-filled afternoon; outside on a warm spring day, playing keep-away with Timmy Feldstien, throwing that smoking cable back and forth. And then later taking him to the emergency room. Pretty educational too. Who would have thought you weren't supposed to step in the puddles when you're playing with a power line?
