By the year 2220 the Rainbow had proven herself one of the most dependable freighters in the solar system.  She was one of a long line of Emerald Flames, an interplanetary cruiser model that had been around longer than most people could remember.  It's computer systems were continuously upgraded, and every technician that maintained her was quality scaled.  They'd gone to school for years just to work on this ship.  At least, that's what it said in the manual.  But as Dortley looked over his screens, a different story was written there.

He had no guidance, and no communications.  Projected course and time of arrival:  the sun, 15 hours, 27 minutes.

He was up shits creek.

He decided to do the only thing that had made any sense to him in the last three days.  Smiling, he closed his eyes, tapped his heels, and thought of Kansas.
