Black stinking mud,

Is pulling me down,

Early death,

Too early,

But it’s coming.

I’ve ripped my arms to shreds,

Snapped both my legs,

I don’t remember how,

Or why anymore;

But I broke my body,

Beyond repair.

Inside,

I was already dead.

It took dying on the outside,

To make me see,

I want to live again.

Lungs try to fill with air,

Only to have it leak,

Through a hole I punched.

Heart struggles to beat,

But like an egg,

It can’t keep life,

Once broken.

Eyes roll up,

To see the sky,

For once it’s not grey,

But stunning blue,

Edges stained scarlet.

Stare glazing over,

I wonder what I missed.

Oh well.

Too late now to worry,

Too late to take it all back,

Too late to feel,

Too late to fly again.

Wings for the earthbound,

Before they fall.
