A rough draft for a short story about a child murderer. I will be fixing it later, but I have a trip coming up and time is running low. Any ideas would be helpful....

Barking echoes through the thin walls. The beastly dog is barking again. An intrusive noise caused by the infuriated house hold pet. Each piercing squeal and rumbling growl flitters around the sleeping child’s room. Stirring softly consumed by a restless slumber the yelping invades his safe place. If you follow the intrusion to the source of the sound you would find a beautiful golden retriever puppy.
Eyes bright ears standing straight up alert to swift movements in front of him. A lean man stands before the puppy with a knotted rope toy shaking it in front of the dog’s face just out of reach. With every swing of the thread pendulum her honey eyes follow. Back and forth, back and forth. Waiting for the perfect moment to strike when the hind legs contract and release into the air a single swift movement. Lurching for the desired toy, only to have it pulled back. The man holds the toy tight to his body chuckling at the dog’s dumbfounded look.
Their one sided game continues on late into the night as does the menacing sounds. Back up stairs the child plots a devilish plan. A way to stop the noise and distractions. After some mental reassurance the child falls asleep with a content grin on his face. All will be while in the morning.

Stumbling out of the bed the child prepares for school and leaves his room. Carefully closing the door behind him with a contorted face. Silently his feet barely connect with the floor avoiding the loose boards. Peering around the corner he finds evidence of the main problem. Laying haphazardly around on the floor, some of it’s contents spilling on the linoleum. Shaking his head slightly the child continues towards the door only to be stopped in his tracks by a loud snore coming from the couch.
Sprawled out like a dead animal the man slept on the torn couch. Snoring loudly every couple of breaths. His flannel clad arms flared out to the sides and his long legs falling off the couch’s edge. There was the other problem, the one that came out with the first’s assistance.
Again the child reaches out to the door knob when the hinges shriek startling the slumbering man. Slowly he rises from the couch along with the anger in his coal eyes. He chuckles moving forward towards the child extending the well known hand. Again the barking shields the child’s sobs as he cleans up for school. Already hours late with lots of explaining waiting ahead.
The day was long, but not as long as the unwanted glances he got from teachers and peers. Everyone knew what happened, but chose to keep a blind eye his way.
The bus ride was long as usual. Other kids where chatting away about their weekends and gossiping while he just sat there thinking.
Before entering his wooden prison the child made a quick stop to the wood shed where he and his father spent so many long hours working on the television cabinet his mother had wanted.  The memories left along with her and the future turned weary like the metal solution he held in his hand. Tucking the iron reaper under his jacket the child plastered on a normal face and went into the house.
Rocking back and forth in his seat was the same cold man he had grown accustomed to seeing, but this time was different. He was again tormenting the dog with the same dreaded rope. It’s yelping filled the house again taking away all the air in the room. No words where said as the child grabbed the weapon from his jacket. The man simply watched still annoying the dog.
Slowly the child raised his tired arm straight out aiming straight for the long gone organ. Finger itching across the trigger just grazing the cool metal. Everything was already planned, except for the dog’s barking. It filled his ears and clouded his thoughts. With a sharp movement the child moved towards his beloved puppy and sent the horse roaring out of the gates.
Silence was finally making  it’s presence known and much gratefully. The child was enveloped in total bliss until the infamous chuckle erupted from the kitchen table. He stood there staring at the once familiar man clearly confused as to his laughter. The man’s eyes gestured towards the corner where the barking had come from.
Realization decided to join the party and the child was in complete shock. Laying on the floor mouth slightly agape with a single trail of blood flowing out was his beautiful puppy.  Rushing over the child slid in the dog’s blood allowing the sanguine liquid to stain his denim pants. The boy reaches out and strokes his dog’s cold snout. With out hesitation he strips off his jacket and lays it out over the dog’s chilled body. Frantically he searches for some vitals in the dog only to be let down.
Flaming from the ears the child turns towards the man at the table and quickly grabs the weapon from the counter. This time the beast lodges itself into it’s rightful place.
Now the nightmare was over slumped over the table pouring blood all over the floor. Only this time the child wouldn’t have to clean up the mess or grab him another beer. This time the child could just sit down and watch television or phone a friend. His personal hell was over, but he made it out with out his best friend.
Tears fell freely from the child’s face as he cursed the man for the loss of his dog. Somberly he picks up the dog’s limp corpse and descends outside. Silently a grave is dug and the dog is put to rest. A few hours go by and the night sky falls down upon the sobbing child. Regaining his stuff he goes inside and up the stairs only this time not being followed by the barking. Peacefully the child drifts off into a silent slumber for the first time in years.
