What would've happened if you had a clear thought that day

Seen a small piercing light

Drawn the shades

And been ok with being alone.

Would you have still made the trade.

Standing from your shrinking corner

Sunken eyes, this long painful road was a blur

So you drank for clarity

So we never accepted your sincerity

The final step kicked the crutch from under your arm

We pick our villain

With your note not to blame her

What would've happened if I wasn't so self-involved

And picked up the phone

What would've become of the day after

Holding vigil

What would've avoided disaster

What if I took stock in your letter

What if I tried to make you feel better.

What if I took notice of your bruise

What if I tried on your shoes

What if I showed empathy

Would there be better news

When can I forget this date

When can I shed this weight

What would've happened if I held tighter to the friendship we built

What if I let go of the guilt?

Like the ocean pulling me

Every single memory of you makes me wince

bottling every thought of you, ever since...

Thrown into the tide

carried on the echoes of your unassuming plea..
