An eerie air of silence; surrounds his heavy head, A broken heart pounds loud and clear, as he lay down to bed, His head beneath the covers and tear-filled eyes shut tight, And in his mind a silent prayer, it won’t return tonight.

Then somewhere in the darkness; his ears detect a cry, He tightens up his frightened eyes and hopes it passes by, Deafened by his heartbeat and paralysed with fear, His prayers have failed him once again and night has brought it here.

It rips him from his hiding place, ignores the young boys pleading, Its brutal fist rains down again, his face left bruised and bleeding. He lays, defenceless on the ground, still holding back the tears, He wonders why this savage beast has plagued him all these years.

This all seems like a nightmare, a story in one’s mind, But if you look much deeper here, the truth you’re sure to find. By day it takes a different form, one the boy would rather, The thing he fears after dark, the beast, is this boy’s father.
