As an eighteen-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, Lieutenant Sandra Smith was no stranger to danger, but she never expected the random act of fate that would change her life forever.
Sandra began her career as a patrol officer in Philadelphia’s 6th District, which covers the Center City section of Philadelphia. After only seven years as an officer, she was promoted to sergeant. Just eight years later, she made lieutenant. The whole time she climbed the ranks, Sandra managed to be a loving wife and mother to her four children. While responding to a bank robbery in the spring of 2011, Sandra was involved in a major car crash. As a result of the crash, Sandra suffered a severe back injury. Dealing with that injury changed not only her career, but her life.
