I sat by your bed last night,

all night,

stroking you hair

and watching your dreams.

The Dodgers played the Braves

illuminated only by prancing purple northern lights,

while you devoured a crispy hot dog, with just a little ketchup.

You climbed a mountain

of creamy chocolate ice cream

reaching the strawberry covered summit

before slurping and sliding to the melty bottom.

We danced through

golden waving wheat fields

to the sandy edge of the earth

to watch the sun descend into nothingness

while liquid drops of joy

flowed from our smiling eyes,

joining together

to form a salty stream

eroding a path in the hot sand

seeking the comfort of the ocean's embrace.

Only magical dreams

of love and hope

are permitted in your perfectness.

Death and destruction

do not devour dreams.

Not on my watch.
