The language of lust
differs vastly
from the language of love
And you, my sapphic muse,
are requiring that I master
this alien dialect

I cannot say
that I miss holding you,
speaking of the mundane with you,
that I want to be near you
simply to be near you

I must translate
that my hands miss exploring you,
that I crave your sexy voice in my ear,
that erotic deja vu has
staked its claim over me

I cannot speak of
tender kisses,
knowing glances,
romantic sunsets

Each sentiment must be cloaked
by desire,
urgency,
ache,
hunger

I cannot express
that I yearn not just to sleep with you,
but to wake up with you;
that my soul suffers in your absence
as much does my body;
that I bask not simply in your passion,
but in your laughter

My words require careful selection,
frequent pause and reference to
the dictionary for translation
For I am unaccustomed to this new tongue
Having never before spoken it exclusively

And if, in my ignorance of the vernacular,
I stumble
I ask your forbearance
For I am seeking to apply
A remote jargon
To familiar interludes
