It's their first day of college. They meet in the hall. It's love at first sight. Alex and Mike will go through an emotional experience. Together. Forever.

I was skating down the hall on my skateboard. The dull rumble of wheels on tile. Everyone else was in class. Or so I thought. I heard a girls voice rehearsing lines of a script. I'm a girl too, but I hate acting. I turned the corner and ran right into her. We both fell over and my board rolled away. \"Sorry!\" She cried, scrambling up onto her feet and picking up her script. \"Oh, it's fine.\" I groaned, standing up.  \"Alex!\" she screamed, hugging me.  I recognized her now. It was a friend from highschool.  \"Lily! Hi! I didn't expect you to be coming to this college!\" \"I heard it had a great acting reputation! So I came!\" \"I came because it was close to home.\" I replied simply. \"I gotta get going.\" \"Okay, bye!\" I walked back over to my skateboard and rolled off. /Thunk!/ /Thunk!/ The dull smack of something hitting the tile over and over again rung through the air. I continued to skate and it got closer and closer. I glanced behind me and the next thing I knew I was on the ground again. Really? Two times in one day? I glanced up and saw a guy with a basketball. I stood up. He did too. Man, was he tall! \"Hi,\" he introduced, in a deep voice. \"I'm Mike.\" \"I'm Alex.\" I said, smiling. \"You play ball?\" I prodded, gesturing to the basketball. \"Oh, yeah I do. I was on my way to practice.\" Mike confirmed. \"You skate?\" he asked back. \"Mhmm.\" I hummed a soft yes. \"And I surf.\" \"Cool, Uh see ya around?\" \"Yeah, defiantly.\" I smiled. He smiled back and walked toward the gym, dribbling the ball. It made the rubbery thunk I heard earlier.

I went back to my dorm, and hopped onto my bed. My room mate wasn't there. She was probably in class. I decided to do some work. I pulled out a heavy textbook, but did nothing. I fell asleep and woke up again around dinner time.  I pulled on my shoes and grabbed my keys to my old green pick-up truck. My dad gave it to me. I trudged down the stairs and trotted out into the parking lot. I walked to the pick-up and hopped in. I heard another car door slam closed. It was close. I glanced out the window and saw an old t-bird. Inside was Mike. I honked my horn and he looked up, glancing in the opposite direction of me. When he looked my way, he smiled and rolled down his window. I rolled down mine. \"Hey!\" he shouted over the wind, \"I know a really good place to eat! Wanna come?\" \"Sure!\" I smiled. \"Lead the way! I'll follow!\" He nodded and rolled up his window. He backed out of his parking space and I did the same. We drove out and turned into a small diner called Bella's Diner. We walked in together and got a small booth. A waitress came over at took our orders. \"So, what do you like to do, I mean, besides basketball?\" I asked. \"Oh, well, I like to mountain bike and do nature walks.\" The food came and we ate. It was really good. \"Hey,\" I said slyly when we finished. \"I know where we can go! Follow me!\" I grabbed his hand and ran out to my pick-up. I shoved him into the passengers seat and I took the drivers. \"Where're we going?\" he asked. \"It's a surprise!\" I teased and drove out. We reached a pier of a beach soon after. We were in Florida.  \"Close your eyes!\" I told him. He closed them. I walked around to his side, pulled him out, stood on my tip-toes and put my hand over his eyes. \"I don't trust you.\" I smirked even though he could see me. He chuckled. I walked over to a little stand where they sell Italian Ice. I got two. \"Thanks Zach!\" I thanked my friend who was working. \"You're welcome, Alex.\" It was dark now, and the pier wasn't a busy one. We were the only ones there. I told Mike to open his eyes. \"Wow. This is... Nice.\" he sat down on the edge of the pier and took his ice. I sat down next to him. We talked and he finished his. \"I finished!\" he announced and stood up to go throw it away. He stepped on the edge of the pier, lost his balance, and fell into the water below. I gasped and peeked over the edge. He surfaced laughing. \"You should come in! It's nice!\" I grinned and took off my shoes. I jumped in next to him and pulled him under. We came back up arm in arm. \"Oh?Uh, sorry.\" he said hastily, letting me go. \"No, I liked it.\" I cooed, wrapping my arms around his strong neck. He smiled softly and put his arms around my waist. \"I know I just met you,\" I began, \"But I really like you.\" Mike responded with a passionate kiss. Then we goofed off in the water for a while and we got out. We lay next to each other in the sand, gazing up at the stars. We held hands. \"I don't want to leave, but I have to.\" I finally said. Mike nodded. \"Yeah, I have a big game tomorrow. You should come. It's at 3.\" he said understandingly. \"I'll be there.\" I stood up and fetched my shoes. We hopped in my truck, I dropped Mike off at his car and we drove back, me behind him. We split to go back to our dorms.

The next day we met back at the gym in the morning. We talked until the whole team got there. Then I left to go get a smothie and a local Orange Julius. After I got it, I skated across the street. I screeched in pain and the next thing I knew I heard the blaring sirens of an ambulance. I had been hit by a car. A hit and run driver. I got loaded onto a stretcher, the pain unbearable. I wish I would just black out. Loose consciousness.  \"Alex...\" I heard the deep warming voice of Mike next to me. \"Hold on.\" We reached the ER and I got rushed to be operated on right away. Mike stayed in the waiting room.

I woke up in a different room all alone. I had one of those oxegyn nose things hooked up to me and there was a monitor reading my heart beat and such. I heard voices and footsteps go by every once in a while. Finally Mike came in. \"How are you?\" he asked from the doorway after he saw that I was awake. \"Good...\" I managed to whisper hoarsley. He came and sat next to me. He took my hand. \"Mike, I want to know what happened.\" Mike looked at me. He sighed. \"The car hit you... Obviously, and a piece of metal got lodged into you, near you spine...\" I gasped when he said spine. I couldn't feel my toes. Or my legs. Tears filled my eyes. I began to sob quietly. Mike took my hand in both of his. \"Alex, what is it?\" he asked gently. \"I- I can't f-feel my l-legs.\" I stammered through sobs. His face paled. He ran over to the trashcan and threw up. I guess he couldn't take all the emotions and the stress. He probobly felt worried, scared, angry, anxious, sad, and tired all at the same time.

It's been a few days and the doctors clarified I wouldn't be able to use my legs ever again. I cried for at least the whole day. I cried myself asleep. I'm sure Mike did too. A man took a picture of the lisence plate on the car. The guy who hit me had been brought to jail. They're letting me leave today. They even got me a neon yellow wheel chair. Yellows my favorite color and neon makes everything better in my eyes. Mike had a game today. I was going. He came in and wheeled me outside. \"Doesn't that feel nice?\" he asked me. \"Yeah, you wouldn't  know how much.\" I sighed in reply.

We reached the school and everyone was flooding around us. Mike finally just yelled to leave me be. Lily ran over to us and she gave me a huge hug. \"Oh Alex, oh Alex.\" she cooed. \"I'm so sorry!\" \"Lily, don't be. Be glad it wasn't you.\" she nodded and ran off.

Mike won his game and we went back to the pier. We got some more Italian ice. \"Where it all began...\" Mike sighed as we went onto the pier. The sun was setting. He leaned in toward me. And we kissed. The best kiss in my life.  It will always be my favorite.
