Summary

I learned from my mother that my great-great grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee. I was listening to their flute music when this popped into my head..

Cherokee Flute

The lone flute sings out
It echos along the empty plain
A sweet melody so sorrowful
Each note speaks a profound pain

The wind carries it out
Sweeping the floating notes away
How I wish to fly with them
Even for just a moment, a day

It calls out to those
Who may perhaps understand
Calls anyone, anything, anywhere
Whether it be plant, animal, or man

The stars look down on him
He who plays a tune
They empathize the lone human
Graced by the light of the moon

A chorus of creatures join in
With the broken-hearted lullaby
But one animal stands out
Listen, you can hear a wolf’s cry

The cry reaches the man’s ears
A warmth fills up inside
He has found a fellow friend
A faithful friend, he fills with pride

A light breaks through the trees
Dawn has now come
Hope now begins anew
The man has now found a home

The lone flute sings out
It echos along the empty plain
The sweet melody so sorrowful
Now slowly fades away...
