This is Lee's thoughts when he put an end to Duck's misery.

R for language and the intense stuff in the story (such as suicide).

As the train stopped to a halt, I climbed down and sighed as I saw Katjaa lay Duck down. Kenny looked at their son with tears filled in his eyes. Duck's time had come. I couldn't even imagine how stressed and upset Kenny and Katjaa were. This was their ten-year-old son that had gotten bit by a walker and now they had to put him down. End his misery.
"Kenny, it's time." Katjaa said.
"What? No, no, no. There's gotta be some way we can--"
"Kenny, we can't stop him from changing. There's no way we can cure him."
"But...But..." Kenny took a quick glimpse at his son and looked down quickly. "Oh God..." He sobbed.
"Ken, I love you and I love our son more than anything, but we have to end this for him." Katjaa explained, close to sobbing herself.
I shook my head and looked at the two. I couldn't let Kenny or Katjaa put an end to his misery. No parent should have to do this.
"I'll do it. I'll put an end to his misery." I offered.
"No, Lee. A parent must do this." Katjaa said.
"No parent should have to do this." I replied.
Katjaa sighed and looked at her son.
"Lee's right, Kat. We shouldn't have to do this. Let's just say our goodbyes and let Lee handle him." Kenny told her.
"Well, all right...Let's go end this in the woods. I don't think Clementine should see this." I nodded in agreement and watched as she picked up Duck, heading into the woods along with Kenny.
I turned to Clementine, seeing her sitting on a log and looking down with sad eyes. She must know what's happening, I thought. I walked over to her and knelt down.
"...Duck's dying." I said hesitantly, unsure on how to tell an eight-year-old girl this.
"I know." She mumbled. "What are you going to do." She looked up at me.
"I'm...I'm going to put an end to his misery."
"You are?"
"Yeah. Now, I want you to sit tight with--" There was a sudden gunshot that echoed through the woods. Shit! I hope they're not in danger or that Kenny or Katjaa decided to shoot Duck themselves.
I quickly whipped around and ran into the woods, searching for Katjaa and Kenny. I stopped with my eyes wide as I saw the body laying right in front of me. A pool of blood circled around her head. Kenny was by her side, sobbing hard.
"What the hell happened?!"
"She...She...Oh God..." Kenny sobbed harder.
I stared at Kat for a moment, then looked at Duck who had been letting out wheezing-like noises.
"We still have to, you know..." Kenny stood up, grabbing Kat's gun and looked at Duck.
"Yeah, I know."
"Give me the gun." Kenny let out a deep breath and handed me the gun. I cocked it and aimed it at Duck's head.
"I-I can't look..." He stammered and turned around, sobbing hard. Man, poor Kenny, I thought.
"Rest in peace, Duck." I whispered before letting out a deep breath and pulling the trigger.
