nerve agents begin green marching

beneath socketed skies,

past rivers shimmering with vitriol,

as secrets grow in the gaseous air.

i wear a new rubber face and run with elephantmen

through the trampling, fractured wild;

i smell wet asphalt, feel months-old

gin gushing over my insides and it shines

in my red, American skin.

a four-legged god who owns all paved and open space

orates peace in his foghorn voice:

hello, hot yellow sea,

hello, chicken-skinned men,

pot-bellied children,

and fish-eyed women.

you know,

my Uncle did good for Vietnam.
