i am unwary of

the ubiquitous thunder,

rumbling, indigestive neighbors

or high-rises tumbling to concrete-cake,

whichever it is.

these torrid-noises,

a new wave each August

backfiring, then the radio sounds

falsely of conversation.

to ask,

isn't Catastrophe ready?

knowing the mood of our heat

may eclipse any law,

is unwise.

quiet us with humidity

and a sudden, steaming deluge,

stall for a few more screams.
