summer had severely aged

in a cosmetic way,

like plastic pulled over old food-

i can tell

i've been warm too long,

too enamored of the quivering sky,

it could be a new face

on arid, grey winter.

kohl drawn on the lids of horizon

obscures a super-pure death

by incineration-

the ash of an overstayed season

will float east in February

and land lightly

on the sill.
