We were riding our car through a town not far from home. It was almost dark when we stopped on a tight alley to smoke a cigarette. Suddenly we saw a man appearing out of nowhere and stopping in the middle of the road, five meters ahead of us. He was just standing there, watching us. He had a long trench coat covered in bloodstains and he was holding an axe.

That was the moment when we realized there's something very wrong with this scene. We heard on the news a few days ago that there was a killer out there and now we were the ones facing him. I looked around me more carefully. There was fresh blood on the pavement and garbage bags were lying on both sides of the roads. There was this piercing darkness and it was cold. I could smell the rust and the fire fumes coming from an old oil can burning in the distance. My first thought was to run. But then I admitted to myself that I wouldn't stand a chance if I chose to confront him. The best thing to do was getting back into the car before he could reach us and drive as far away as possible.

We backed out slowly, trying not to make and unnatural and sudden moves, and got into the car. Zara was on the drivers seat and I sat next to him. I thought it was very suspicious that the man didn't move a step. He continued standing there, watching us as we tried to escape. The scene must have been hilarious from his point of view. We probably looked like two scared rabbits caught in the headlights of a car. We closed the car doors and as Zara was starting the engine, I pulled the window up. As we were passing him, I thought we were safe. I thought we got away from all of this. But just then I realized that the rear window, from the back seat, was still open. With only one gesture of the hand, he swinged his axe through the open window. At first it was like nothing even happened. Zara didn't even notice his move. I looked at the man for one last time and saw the outline of a smile in the corner of his mouth.

I knew something bad had happened but the adrenaline rush stopped me from realizing what exactly. - we got away, Zara said as we were driving further. I took a deep breath, still thinking about that axe swing. Something wasn't right. I put my hand on the right side of my head and felt this large crack in my skull, just above the ear. -this isn't good, I thought. I took my hand away and looked at it. Blood was dripping from the tips of my fingers. It was so warm. I put my hand back on the crack and it felt even bigger than before. It didn't hurt though. I was in shock. -you have to drive faster, I shouted at Zara. -why, he is not following us, we're safe. -just do it! Hurry up! Drive faster! I kept yelling at him. Then I calmed down. It started hurting a little. -he got me, I said to Zara with calm. -he hit me with the axe through  the window and now I have a fucking crack in my skull, I said showing Zara my bloody hand. -now drive faster! We have to get to a hospital.

It was pitch black outside. The road turned into a tight alley that made it impossible for Zara to higher the speed. There were no people, no stores, no houses, just these infinite concrete walls on both sides, making it impossible for us to get help. My head started hurting. It was a faint sting piercing my skull and I felt my brain pulsating. I knew I was losing a lot of blood and that I had to get medical attention as soon as possible. Finally we managed to get into town, but as we were making our way to the hospital, the car broke down. There was no one on the road and we couldn't ask for help. I couldn't walk straight and I felt I was going to faint at any moment.

We were almost there, when I fell. -get up, Zara said, but I couldn't move anymore. I was hearing, feeling and seing everything that was happening around me but I couldn't talk or use my limbs anymore. I was terrified. My heart started pumping more and more blood and I kept trying to calm myself down, because I knew that I've lost too much blood already. My head was heavy and the wound was hurting me so much.

It was the only thing that I could still feel as we rushed into the IR. - help! We need help! My girlfriend has been attacked with axe! Zara kept shouting. I could hear his voice echoing in my head, saying that we made it and that I'll be fine. -help her! I heard him scream and then I felt this rush and machine noises all around me. It was making me sick and I could feel the terror inside my heart. My mind was still awake as I heard the last words hitting against my consciousness, from what I thought to be darkness - she is going to die.
