..

Shredded scarlet curtains drape the shattered windows

Of a forlorn castle on Haunted Hollows Hill.

Left desolate and unguarded by a ghastly war,

It's an emptiness only darkness will fill.

~~~~~~~~~~
Alone between crumbled stone walls,
Silent voices whisper of fatality wrought.
Hear the pitter patter of ghostly footfalls,
But seal away any sympathetic thought.
~~~~~~~~~~

A king, he was, so hungry for invincible power

That he sold innocent souls unto the Devil.

Over the kingdom, he placed Death's flower,

And his city Satan would soon dishevel.

~~~~~~~~~~
Horrid stains of blood paint a crimson river.
Ominous clouds linger in a colorless sky.
In the valley, charred branches shiver
Against harsh winds they cannot defy.
~~~~~~~~~~

Raging storms howl in the far distance

A challenge launched to any rebel soul.

Receiving not the slightest resistance,

Onward through the land the storms roll.

~~~~~~~~~~
Washing away the grotesque stains,
Drowning out the putrid smells,
Cleansing foulness from the plains,
The rapid floods silence Hatred's bells.
~~~~~~~~~~

Chaotic Aftermath whisked away,

Blackened skies cleared of Death,

The Sun, once more, has come to stay,

And cool winds have released a joyous breath.

~~~~~~~~~~
Slowly the sky fades into blues.
Light returns to what once was dark.
Colors paint in vibrant hues
Across hills bearing History's mark.
~~~~~~~~~~

Many years from now, though hard to believe, the future will not recall

Not even the slightest of War's terrible reign.

Only Peace from the heavens will fall

Upon this earth with the promised rain.

How do you get the spaces between the stanzas? Booksie sucks at preserving formats.

There's a key over the Tab key on my keyboard. I press Shift and that button. Then enter after.

unmasked delusions

Great way to approach a subject like this- a different/unique start to slowly reveal your point. Beautiful written and nice light at the end. My favorite line, "In the valley, charred branches shiver against harsh winds they cannot defy."
