The unexpected event

Carlos had been so happy with his performance at school; moreover, he didn’t remember the last time that an acknowledgment had been for him unless he counted that one in kinder garden for “effort” (but we all know those are given to everybody.) but all seemed perfect, now he would be able to graduate with honours, go to the art college he so much wanted, and get that VW sedan his parents had promised him. The only problem was a very weird sensation that wouldn’t live him be, all his way home he had this estrange sensation and he couldn’t explain that unusual feeling that pressed his chest and that avoided him to enjoy to de fullest his joy and happiness of seeing his grades.

When he arrived home, the door was not open like usual, and there was no smell or warmth from the food (a usual steak of meat and a cold lemonade he devoured after a day full of lessons and teachers he didn’t like.) that always met him before entering, no, instead of all that, the turned off light and the cold hallway wrapped him in a huge intrigue that choked his voice as he saw the image of his father standing there, right next to de window with all the curtains still closed; that of course made the moment even more dismal. With only the facial expression of his father´s face, Carlos knew what had happened; desperately and barely able, he ran up the stairs and into his mother`s room. When he entered he knew that what had been his first thought as he saw his father was true. Empty, with a huge stomach-ache and his head spinning around, he headed tumbling towards his room, imagining the tragic scene there would be; his father stood in his way and explained, but he could barely hear what he said and without understanding a single thing. With a great agility, he avoided him and made it to the door. The fear was taking control of him, and when he put his hand in the doorknob he couldn’t stop shaking. He thought about the worst and most terrible of events that he could live at his young age; sweating cold and with tears in his eyes, he entered, the room was untouched, just like he had left it in the morning. It had just a slight detail, the vacuum had devoured all there was on the floor, in that moment he remembered what his mom had told him that morning, “if you don’t pick up your things, ill throw them away.” He got in all four he looked under his bed, there, right in the middle were the tickets for that night`s premiere of “THE FORCE AWAKENS” (Star Wars episode 7) and almost all the stuff he had left on the floor; when he saw them, he let out a breath he hadn’t realized he´d been holding, turned to his father and listened for the explanation.

“This morning”, he said in a calmed way while sitting on the bed, “she said she was fed up with your mess, she said she couldn’t stand it any more and that she was going to do exactly as she said; so, as she was looking for the vacuum I came here and threw most of the things I know are important to you under your bed, I knew the tickets were on the floor and I couldn’t let her throw them away. Of course I couldn’t get everything because she then would have noticed but, as they weren’t too much, she didn’t, after that she said she would vacuum the entire home, and when she finished she went to sleep. ” He finished with a conspicuous giggle.

Carlos was without words, the happiness an joy he had before entering his home returned to him and he went to buy something to eat to later get ready to go to the movies.
